No. This guy is just a Nörgler, who is looking for any excuse to nag about anything. Truely a German. Not my favorite kind exactly but we certainly have plenty of those.

If complaining was Olympic Germany would be the heavy favorite to win . Its something we're truely great at especially complaining even when things are going well.

I'm not German though... couldn't be that a guy is just seeing it as it is without being called a hater, right?

Everything has to be black and white nowadays, it's the simple thing to do.

If you look at the comments from the more casual fans in their comment sections you will see comments such as "this is bigger than Lake Placid", perhaps with that in mind I'm being overly critical towards the peeps in here.

Nothing is bigger than "Lake Placid".
Because nothing is ever bigger or better than the US.

Germany is the real Olympic champs.

Can't you just leave it be ? There's nothing more annoying than needless complaining. Anyone thats truely interested knows how to put this into perfective and attracting casual fans is not a bad thing. Maybe they become more knowledgeable if they actually put a tiny bit of effort into it. Yeah there's some hyperbole. So what ? Thats not a bad thing if the truely knowledgeable people don't drink the kool-aid themselves.

I get that you are annoyed by me, but are you saying that professional athletes beating professional athletes is "bigger" than college kids beating the (at the time) best team in the world with the best GT in the world?

Btw... I'm not American either, so you guys can continue fishing for my nationality. I could be Nepalese for all that matters who doesn't have a fish to fry here. I know it's confusing how somebody could be unimpressed by this whole "Wunder" , but just try to understand that this tournament was some really "accident prone" hockey and despite it being entertaining as hell it was just crappy hockey and being 2nd best in such a tournament... well.. you go ahead and celebrate. That's fine, nobody needs my permission for that.

Germany was the better team

OAR fluked a win.

Russia won it fair and square. Germany had the chance to take it and our team blew it. Overall Russia was stronger though, Germany was again very effective. It is quite nice since this was the trait that we lacked for so many years.
Hope that we can keep this going in the WC, although, just to be clear here for anyone misinterpreting my comments, I don't see us as a powerhouse now.

Well, you know what... maybe I'm a bit unfair to the guys in, let me qualify my comments by saying that I do frequent other German sports pages (i.e. kicker.de). If you look at the comments from the more casual fans in their comment sections you will see comments such as "this is bigger than Lake Placid", perhaps with that in mind I'm being overly critical towards the peeps in here. So maybe I shouldn't put that on the guys on here, but I stand by what I said that things need to be put into perspective and unfortunately more often than not the casuals (bandwagoners) simply don't have that perspective.

In any case, yes a German silver medal in hockey, is impressive given the standing Germany has in the hockey world. In 10 years nobody will care which leagues their opposition played in.

On that missing perspective I can agree. That always bugs me about German commentatory. Every finge NHLer or NHL has-been is a bonafide NHL star and so every victory against a team, that fields some of them is massivly overblown. It goes the other way too, as some are always pretending that a loss against Norway or Latvia is an epic debacle. Truth is: the DEB team is fighting to be a top 8/10 hockey nation, sometimes they are, sometimes they're not. And this tourney won't change that, at least not in the short run. I still hope, that one day we will get somewhat nearer the top 6, but right now it doesn't look that way.

Leave what be? I made some statements and that was it, everything else after that is just responses to the constant shitting on me.
Why can't somebody just have a different opinion without being a "Noergler/Hater"?

I look forward to Germany growing their program.

Very impressed. You deserved to win.

Cause your opinion was needlessly shitting on people and thats out of bounds . Thats the kind of shit that gets people riled up . I'm not cool with that.

I know they won a medal, but...... it’s hard to find a silver lining for Germany after the way they lost.

Kinda feels like that Edmonton game 5 at Anaheim.

Everything falls into place and then it doesn’t and it may never fall into place again.

Germany was the best team in tbe medal round from what I ssw.

Hold your heads high!

You are starting an argument about German bandwagoning after the countries biggest hockey achievement ever and are using a Bild headline to prove your point like it's the opinon of 82 million people. It doesn't get more German than starting an argument over absolutely nothing. Must have picked up on something while you lived here...

And that I can absolutely agree with. Look, I don't hate the DEB team. Ever since I started watching hockey I've always wished for the best for German players, I constantly stat checked Sturm and Hecht, LOVED Koelzig and even hoped that Stefan Ustorf would have made it in the NHL.

I've said it several times on this board that I truly believe if Germans truly cared about hockey and started pumping some serious money into youth programs and coaching clinics they could easily be on par with Sweden,Finland and the Czech Republic. Germany is the sleeping giant and it pains me to see that Switzerland almost constantly has the upper hand against their bigger neighbors.

Let's hope for the sake of German hockey that this has done something to bring some attention to the sport of hockey in Germany. But at the same time, let's hope that people don't have unrealistic expectations and start to jump ship as soon as the DEB starts missing out on A-World Championships and Olympic games, because we all know that this happened more often than we wished for.

I can't control your emotions, so why would you blame me for getting riled up.
Move on if you don't like it. I already explained myself several times yet the ad hominem attacks keep on coming in by some that apparently took my "let's put this into perspective" comments personal.

I'm out, enjoy the silver medal, and I'm not being facetious.

Finally Olympic gold :D. First one in my living memory, and it feels spectacular despite not having nhl players.

In typical Russian fashion they almost gave me a heart attack. That was way harder than it should have been. I really hope they ditch Znarok sooner rather than later. But I have a feeling he sticks around for a while now. History will remember him as the coach that got us our first post Soviet gold, so his short comings will be brushed under the table.

Also congrats to Germany, they're a very likable group and I look forward to the seeing the impact this has on German hockey in 10 years.

It looked like Znaroks wanted to outgrind every single team at the Olympics, but was himself almost outground in the final, and the only skilled line saved his ass... Oh, well, now they will keep him as Team Russia head coach for the next ten years. What a sad tournament...

You're talking like that's a regular occurrence, Germany hasn't qualified for the Olympics exactly once – thrice for the elite division of the World Championship in the last 40 years.
