and you claimed we celebrated the pope as an example of extreme bandwagoning.

One sample out of how many? That headline was/is the epitome of German bandwagoning and a wonderful representation when trying to make a point about it.
If you want to talk semantics not sure if a messageboard is the right place since most/a lot of responses use a degree of hyperbole to make a point. If you take every word literal you'll be spending a lot of time trying to debunk every little word.

Hey, I'm no institution as to "who's the biggest bandwagoning country on the planet" , I'm only a single person who can offer you anecdotal (sometimes factual) evidence. Take it for what it's worth. I understand that you would feel personally attacked, but I'd be dishonest to claim that in my time in Germany I haven't observed some embarrassing bandwagoning that goes beyond simple patriotism.

Make of that what you will, in the meantime let's prepare for the Eurovision Song Contest....

Don't know if you have or haven't but you jumped into a conversation I had with a guy who seemed to not understand this tournament did NOT show the best hockey athletes.

Not sure, haven't been to every country but between USA, Canada, Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, England, Netherlands and Germany , Germany definitely takes the cake. It's absurd at times really.

Do you seriously think its that different in other countries ? When the US was doing well in the World Cup in Soccer do you believe the majority of Americans had any idea what was going on there ? No of course not and i wouldn't expect them to. Casual fans like to bandwagon popular things of their countrymen / home team.

Russians with no class or respect there.

Which Russian there is no russian Team, only Olympic Athlets of Russia. So the regulary counts as Russia the Nation not won this Tournament, in the official Bookings. Otherwise that team wouldn´t be allowed to play. ;)

But not official Russian won Gold after Years without. Could also attract more Players to the KHL showing the World their strength.

Great day for Russians.
First Russian team tearing league apart (G 10+ P 20+).
Second Russian team on other side of the planet wins Olympic gold.
Not bad.
Germany will join to European Big Four someday.

I wouldn't be too upset though if we had to play with the 10th best team our country can compose.

This is why I like NHL’ers because it gives other countries a fighting chance. Don’t understand the point of having a Germany or Slovenia play against Canada etc with NHL’ers.

On the other hand, best of best..is the best.

I guess? I dont feel like a hater.
I just dont get how you can celebrate it as something significant. its a less skillful tournament then the hockey world championships and I dont celebrate winning that as much as I do when my country wins in the olympics.

Because it's the olympics.

Take the olympic football tournament. It's a joke tournament missing most of the world's top teams and most of the top players, all the while bogged down by the gimmick of being a u23 tournament that allows a select number of over age players. Nobody puts much stock in who wins the olympics in regards to global rankings, but try telling the Brazilians or Mexicans that their gold medal doesn't mean anything because it wasn't "best on best".

I doubt that. Joining the top5 would be way more realistic and that would be a pretty big accomplishment.

It was the headline of a tabloid. And it was ridiculed. That's not semantics, it's simply not true. And yes, bandwagoners can be embarassing.
Have fun with the Eurovision. That would have ben a good example of ridiculous German bandwagoning.

Russia in 2022 for back-to-back golds, byatchas.

Panarin - Malkin - Tarasenko
Gusev - Namestnikov - Kucherov
Kaprizov - Kuznetsov - Svechnikov
Volkov - Svetlakov - Buchnevich

Provorov - Voynov
Gavrikov - Sergachev
Rykov - Tryamkin
Zadorov - Zaitsev

Vasilevski - Bobrovsky

Panarin, Kuzya and Kucherov looked great together at WHC...

Where are the Canadians btw??
Well, probably off bitching about how this tournament wasn't legit.

Though Canadians in general are kinda bratty when it comes to not getting gold in hockey, didn't one of the women's players quickly take off a silver medal just the other day?

Good job Germany, this was an entertaining game. Russia, wow you almost blew it lol. This should not have been close without NHL players.

Kaprizov and Gusev are awesome.

Don't think keep away in the last two minutes of the third would have been a good idea for Germany. Russia would have been all over that as well. You play to win and not to just hold on. Congrats to Russia but a bigger congrats to Germany. I'm sure their country will take the sport way more seriously now. I expect them to be a stronger force in the coming years.

The worst part about this is that I can’t see things ever breaking this way in future Olympics for Germany.

This will probably be the only shot they have ever at a gold medal.

I mean, EVERYTHING had to break right. The perfect storm.

Kinda like what we saw with Butler/Gonzaga in National title games.

The glass slipper didn’t fit.

And the wicked stepmother wins the gold medal.
