yup, but canada also has tons of players in the nhl at the moment, match them up and then russia still gets trounced.

That was one intense game.....major props to the Russians. That first period was pure energy. Loved every minute of it. Feel for the Russians, they gave it their all and could have gone either way. And our boys played so hard, proud of them, they brought gold back to Canada!!!

Looking back at this game in a few years, a Canadian team that featured McDavid and a ton of tournament leading scorers (Petan, Domi, Reinhart) better have beaten a Russian team without any superstars (Tarasenko/Kuznetsov, Yakupov/Nichushkin, etc).

I still think Team Canada didn't look great and goaltending was weak as always. But gold is gold.

As someone who has watched this tourney over the years, sometimes it is the teams without the big personalities that come together best. Sometimes skill just dominates, but sometimes those big names just get in the way of TEAM.

Give credit to Russia for capitalizing on the the penalties Canada took and for making a game of it. Though let's be honest -- Canada took their foots off the pedal when they were up 5-1 and then took stupid penalties. If they hadn't, the game would have been long over. JMO.

Darnell Nurse just took over the 3rd period. Nothing got buy him. Ive always had my reservations about Nurse, but no doubt he showed some amazing skill, composure, and strength.

And sorry but gotta give some Frederik Gauthier love. He wasnt that great or anything, and he lost too many faceoffs, but he was relied on late in the game as much as Reinhart and Lazar and he didnt crumble.
