One of the more overlooked parts of the Canadian game, so I am glad you pointed it out.

Canada cycled through their lines as efficiently as I have ever seen done. Again, you need everybody buying in for that to work. One guy who goes me-first with that system and you have a problem. Honestly, I think that was one of Russia's issues.

Great job by the coaching staff getting these guys prepared. I thought it was great how Yzerman talked about the summer camp and how it was laid out for the players how the team was going to approach playing in these games.

That kind of insight does make a guy stop for a moment and think about the questions we all had about personnel a couple of months ago. I am sure the coaching staff was really observing who was "buying in" even at that point.

Total team effort and buy in. I've never been prouder to be Canadian. Proud of the whole Olympic team, total class act.

I don't mean to flack Vancouver fans, God knows they have respectable, understandable fans and I'm only judging by what I say but man... Edler and Sedin were brutal.

Absolutely no heart, no devotion, no commitment, they gave up early and often. Bad giveaways, no emotion and horrible decisions with the puck.
Don't apologize. The two of them have been OUTRIGHT BRUTAL, all season long. The past two months, Daniel Sedin has been hot garbage and Edler seems to be getting worse, year after year.

Getzlaf's line was easily Canada's best line throughout the tournament.
I wouldn't say easily. I don't think any one line, out of the top nine, stood out as being head and shoulders above the rest. They all played tremendously well. IMO, Crosby was the best player in the tournament, even though his stat line wasn't stellar. He was dominant out there, especially when his team needed him the most. Toews too.

Those two guys epitomize Canadian hockey.

Not mentioning Subban below as he was a tactical scratch just like e.g. Hedman and there's only room for three regular pairings a game. You might as well start talking about what secondary goalies weren't playing.

Replacements < Stamkos, Tavares

Replacements <<< Zetterberg, H.Sedin and Bäckström

We had Henrik Tallinder as a center in this game, Henrik Tallinder! He's not even a good defender, nevermind a passable center for a Gold medal game. Bring everyone in healthy and the gap is still much smaller than it was today.

This is a credit to Canada's great depth so take the compliment, but don't say that Stamkos and Tavares negates our injuries because that's wanting to have the cake and eat it too.

Agree with the assertion that Canada's depth is best of any country. How are Canadian injuries lesser than Sweden's?

Clearly the Swedish selectors didnt pick enough centres, arguably the most important position. Canada had 4 or 5 more if needed....

Canada had four or five if needed because their centers are their best players. You're not going to NOT take someone like Tavares because you have more than four centers chosen.

Their injuries were much worse. Look at it this way...

Zetterberg/Backstrom/H.Sedin vs Crosby/Toews/Getzlaf

OR

Johanssen/Kruger/Erikkson vs Crosby/Toews/Getzlaf (Marleau/Duchene/Tavares).

There is a HUGE difference in the significance of their injuries.

If Sweden could replace Zetterberg (one of the top two way forwards in the world), Backstrom and H. Sedin (two of the best play making centers in the world) with comparable talent, it wouldn't have been an issue. The problem is they replaced them with one non-NHL center, one player who is a 2nd line center on the Capitals (and would be a 3rd line center on any team with reasonable center depth), and a 3rd/4th line center in Kruger.

It showed how shallow Sweden was down the middle. Injuries were too much to overcome. It was evident. If those three are in the line up, Canada is still the favorite, but at least it could have been a competitively played game.

Great moment. Finally recovering from the morning's festivities. Nothing brings the nation together like Olympic hockey.

I love Swedish hockey - they're always the second team I support. I wish they had been able to field their best lineup but still they were definitely the second best team in this tournament. Congratulations to them on a great two weeks.

Disagree totally that the missing Swedes were equivalent to the top Cdn centres - Stamkos is a 50+ goals / year player vs. all the others who are 25 goals / year including Zetterberg in his last 4 years. Backstrom is assisting on Ovechkin all year so that is skewed. Tavares is a 30 goal / 58 assist season man with much less talent around him.

If you want to play hypotheticals then you have to add ALL the injured players back and Canada still dominates.....

Love these pics. Anymore around? I'm trying to find some but don't follow many Olympians on instagram.

I agree with this! :handclap: So proud of the entire team Canada! They were awesome! Totally LOVED them as a team! Made me even like the players I usually don't like! Like now I like the Kings players, Ducks players, Sid, etc!

Love how well they were able to be "comfortable being uncomfortable" as Carey Price said! :handclap:

I wish they could stay together as a team, they'd rule the NHL!! ;)

I became big fans of a lot of players. I love that Price hails from BC! He was so grounded! I'm so proud of him.

Became an even bigger fan of Jonathan Toews! I liked him before since he's from my hometown of Winnipeg. But also liked him watching the Blackhawks win the Cup. But this stint with Team Canada sealed the deal. I am a huge fan of his now!

And same with Carey Price. I want to watch him in Montreal now. I really loved how calm he was. He's like the zen master of goal!

I was happy for Roberto Luongo in 2010! But am so happy for Carey Price in 2014!! :)

He's a legend a true winner and amazing leader but yet some jealous haters still trash him. He's great!

Awesome photos! I took some off the TV from the closing ceremony on my Samsung phone. Have to figure out how to get them on here. Not too tech savvy!!

Took way too many photos of Jonathan Toews. (Hey, I'm a girl, I have my hockey girl crushes!)

If anyone has anymore photos of JT, etc please post them. Just any of the team! ;)

I want to know where that Canadian Defense ranks historically amongst all gold winning teams. It was simply incredible.

With only 3 goals against, I would say they were the best! But maybe others know the stats better than me!

I thought the whole team was really great defensively. And to be so much on the offence really helped defensively as well. Really impressed with all the defensemen and forwards who played well defensively!! :handclap:

Canada would probably still dominates, but Sweden would surely be a little more competitive.

I think you miss understood his point.. Sweden missing their top centres is worse than Canada missing theirs because Canada has suitable replacements. Sweden is a much bigger drop off in talent.

I agree on drop off in talent but he is trying to make the assertion that those Swedish centres are equivalent to the Cdn top centres which is hugely laughable.

Regardless, it is silly to play hypothetical what if / only if games.

3 goals against in 6 games is mind numbing. Never trailing is also an incredible accomplishment. Kudos to the players and the coaching staff. Total team effort.
