no NHLers game over for Canada

They were talking about an interesting option yesterday on PTS. They were saying if NHL doesn't go to the Olympics next year, then why don't they send the juniors and have them play the same tournament.

Pretty interesting idea.

Hard fought and well earned for Canada. I thought Sweden played them pretty well and it's a shame they were so depleted of their star forwards (Zetterberg, H. Sedin, Backstrom) because it could have been an even better game.

A couple of observations though: Jonathan Ericsson was god awful. Is he always that bad? Why does he think he's an offensive player? He made a ton of errors and I'm very surprised OEL was benched over him and that Oduya sat later on for OEL to get in, rather than Ericsson.

Also felt D. Sedin was shocking lazy after the turnover that led to Kunitz's goal, especially after hustling to play some good D earlier.

I imagine Ovechkin will be there no matter what. 17 year old players defending Ovechkin :help:.

Please, just participate NHL. Who cares where the tournament is, it's such a great 2 weeks.

Karlsson's comments are understandable but still a little hot headed and arrogant for me to accept. I mean, let your on ice play do the talking...

There's a chance he was taken out of context. From what I've seen of Karlsson he has a pretty good sense of humor and may have been making light of tough loss.

... he sat there in deep thought in what seemed for eternity contemplating his escape plan from Pierre McGuire after the end of the game and then suddenly Jonathan Toews, the one he suspected to be some sort of vampire because he seemed to never age tapped him in the chest and said: Hey man, you still with us?
Yeah said Sid, finally realizing that there was no escape from Mcguire, that he would find him no matter what. That lingering feeling of Mcguire being in the shadows couldn't dissapear in his mind not even the thought that he was 20 minutes away from Olympic gold could calm his restless soul.

Big props to Canada. Stifling defense.

Golden boy Sid and whipping boy Kunitz come through in the clutch ;)

Karlsson was a ghost. Bigger disappearing act than Kessel.

I heard Karlsson's name twice during the game...one a cough-up in his own zone and the other a weak pp point shot that was blocked...Kessel at least had a few good moments...

Congratulations to Canada on the win. You guys were so much better than us. Kudos to Kruger for busting his behind in a role far above his pay grade.

Great tournament, I don't know if I can recall seeing team Canada being so dominant. Right now I think Canada is peaking with a certain mix of players while a number of other nations are on the decline but with a number of very young promising players. I would fully expect things could turn around dramatically in four years, if NHLers are allowed again. But (hopefully) Canada will always be able to put forward a very strong squad.

What a performance. Honestly the last two games were almost boring, Canada gave the USA and Sweden nothing to work with.

What a way to end it if this is truly the last Olympics for NHL players.

Hats off to Sweden for getting to the final and putting forth a decent effort, especially considering losing Backstrom right before the game and not having Zetterberg and H. Sedin the entire tourny. Might've been a different outcome if you guys had scored first, too.

Even so, this was a great medal round performance by Team Canada. So proud of the team for coming through big time! Hopefully, we'll have a chance to defend the crown in 4 years.

Anyone have a clip of the shorthanded play from Jeff Carter (3rd Period) where he caused a turnover at the CAN blue line about 12' from the boards, blew through 2-3 Swedes and got caught at the faceoff circle by Karlsson who had skated from a dead stop on the opposite wall on the blue line? There's no one else who gets there in time to stop a shorthanded chance. Amazing speed.

Canada proved, without any doubt, that it is the one and only hockey super power. After this, anything other than Canada winning olympic gold can be considered an upset. In the next tournament, assuming NHL participates, it will be Canada as the favorite, USA, Sweden, Russia as the challengers and then Czechs, Finland, Slovakia and Swiss as the dark horses.

Really? If anything the last 5 years of the WJC have proved that Sweden, USA, Russia and Finland will be closer to Canada than ever in the future.
