Yes bobby clarke is ranting about forsberg going to olympics, and said it's up to the flyers doctor to decide, which probably means he is going to miss olympics. Doubt forsberg goes against clarke of all people.

meanwhile, the injury naslund has doesn't get better.

Be ready to see that both Forsberg ans naslund will withdraw the next few days, and the gold is definitely gone for sweden. If these two are gone, I wont even watch the games.

Yeah Sweden's gold medal hopes would be in serious trouble, they would still have a strong team, but those are two players that can't really be replaced.

But atleast they don't have Tommy Salo in goal.

if those two wont go
the olympic hockey tournament will lose big time attention those two are the most exiting swedish forwards
it would hurt if they wont go :'(

Really sucks. Foppa has missed quite a few games lately, so I guess it is going to happen, unfortunately. Näslund has been playing though, so why would he skip? What did they diagnose him with? Kipper groin?

Näslund would be much less of a loss for sweden, he has never really impressed in these super tournaments but Foppa has been big everywhere.

As a guy who has a ticket for a Sweden game I honestly hope that both of them get well. Seeing Forsberg playing live was always a dream for me.

It's pitty to lose such great players for the tournament. Hopefully they make it and Flyers manegement gives Forsberg a green light!

That is a definite dissapointment if indeed it happens. I'm Canadian through and through, but I've always rooted for Sweden a little bit (except for the drubbing they gave Canada in the Salt Lake prelims), especially since I'm living there for the moment. It's always sad when some of a country's best players are injured and and can't make it, but it happens to all countries I guess.

Still looking forward to seeing them play though. Their team should still be relatively solid, even without Foppa and Naslund.

Yes but they don't have to wait for the management's green light, or at least they shouldn't have to since the olympic break is part of the agreement.

I can see both sides of the argument

The Flyers, as well as every other team in the NHL that has players going to the olympics, have rather large investments in these players.

If healthy, the teams should not have a say in the matter, but if they are hurt and not playing for their current team, then I can see why a team would want to be part of the decision making process of a player playing or not.

That said, Forsberg is on pace to play 68 games due to a groin problem that started effing with him back in November. I just don't see how it makes any sense for him, the Flyers or even Team Sweden to want to allow him to play.

The best way to heal a groin injury that isn't torn is rest. If I were the Flyers I'd sit him out the rest of the games from now until the break and let him come back as close to fully healthy as he can possible get and I would strongly urge him NOT to participate in the upcoming olympics.

just an opinion.

Im from Finland and i still hope those two could play in Olympics, but if Forsberg cant make it you guys still have very good backup, Nylander!

This was exactly my thought. Ever since the Babchuk lawsuit, teams have had to protect themselves by not interferring too much with medical decisions. The doctor is no longer considered a "Team" doctor, and is more akin to a private contractor now. If Forsberg decides he wants to play in the Olympics based on the advice he recieves, he can play and theres really nothing Bobby Clarke can do but rant.

No it's not. Even if Forsberg and Näslund were out you'd still have a worldclass team out there. And don't forget the fact that you have a goalie who can steal the games. But of course it would hurt your chances if they were out.

Naslund has not been very good this season, and quite frankly, he's been terrible the last month and a half. Frankly, you'd be happier seeing him not play than give a superficial effort.

It would appear that Naslund and the Canucks only figured that last bit out this week.

I thought it should have been up to Sweden medical staff to determine if he was fit enough to dress the national team jersey.. :sarcasm:

:dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

Depending of how BÅG handles this, it might not kill us. (Losing Norström though - also injured -would kill us)

The gameplan is apparently to play Zetterberg between Forsberg (left?) and Näslund (right?). That line is unbalanced, stank badly in the World Cup and is not necessarily much better than the alternatives:

If Forsberg pulls out, we might go with

Näslund - Zetterberg - Holmström

If Näslund pulls out, we might go with

Forsberg - Zetterberg - Holmström

If both pull out, we might go with

Ekman - Zetterberg - Holmström.

In my opinion, none of these lines would necessarily turn out to be much worse than the original line, despite the fact that the replacements are clearly worse players.

lol.

Forsberg's carrer is almost over.
He is definitly going to play the Olympics. And if Sweden takes the gold, chances are he won't even return to the NHL at all and retire.

His body is broken and batterd and he almost withdrew from the NHL last year. All he wanted is to compete at top level for one more season so that he has a real Chance for Olympic gold - as this is is last chance to win an Olympic tournament because Sweden's golden generation fades;

Sweden is going to go to Turino with Foppa, and they will leave Turino with a gold medal, mark my words.

:biglaugh:

First of all, he already has an Olympic gold, so I doubt he cares that much.

Second, you clearly don't know Forsberg at all to think he would quit on his team in the middle of a season.

If you seriously think Forsberg doesn't care much about the olympics, you don't know him at all either.

His Team? Do you think he identifies with the Flyers or the City of Philadelphia?

Forsberg is almost done. His injuries are not happening at random. Its a natural and logical thing that, if your career is coming to a closure, you want to have one last big sucess and then walk away as a champion.

Forsberg is not the type of guy who can't let loose and retires as a gandfather in a wheelchair in the 4th swedish league ;)
