I'm liking Stolarz thus far, and have high hopes for him based on some comments out of Florida about how good he is.

What I don't like (and this is not exclusive to Stolarz) is goalies constantly dropping to their knees only to have the puck go in above them. This has happened one 3-4 of the goals against the Leafs thus far this season, and it needs to stop. It is a league wide thing, but I don't care about the goalies on other teams and actually encourage them to keep doing it!

What’s the origin story of the nickname Hildebeast. Because it’s so awesome. When was it first used and who used it. Was it early in his minor league career (ie some 14 yo teammate) or is it more recent.

It does seem terrible but look at the percentage of goals that are scored on the ice vs goals that go high

You should try it yourself. About 50% of the goals against the Leafs this year have gone over the goalie after he dropped to his knees. Some went over the goalie but don't count because he was moving across the crease, etc. I'd love to see the stats league wide.

And why do goalies drop to their knees and then shrug their shoulders at the puck? Do none of them know how to catch? Did none of the North American goalies play baseball growing up?

Goalies go down to their knees to cover the ice and force the player into more difficult shots. They utilize their shoulders because that's often a faster reaction than moving your hands, especially if not glove side. Stopping a puck in hockey is very different from catching a baseball.

Leafs Home Board
What a difference a year makes now under a competent GM and Coach.

Last year goaltending stats after 3 games Leafs 2 wins and 1 loss, however 13 goals against :amazed: under Keefe's non system.

This year after 3 games its the same record 2-1-0, however just 5 goals against under new goaltending and good coaching Berube.

An +8 goals against improvement after just 3 games. Early results and small sample size however results are very promising right out of the gate.

Leafs go from averaging 4.33 GA/g to 1.66 GA/g.

With the contract being handed out is crazy
Ullmark 8.25 m injured
Shesterkin turned down 88 m
Swayman 136 gp 8.25 m

I really like how our goaltending is set up
Stolarz
Woll

we have Hildebeast who so far is looking like he can be a backup next yr and a started in 2 yrs.

It's important that we always have the next one to replace our goaltender one his next big contract comes up
Ex
Woll if he proves that he can stay healthy we could trade him in 2 yrs if hildebeast kiss the real deal

We are set up really well

Wildebeest / Hildebeast. Seems like a pretty obvious nickname to choose, no?

Lets first wait a while, before declaring that. I still have faith in Woll
+1
The Woll is done comments are hilarious.

Agreed. He's amazing when he plays, so why give up on him? Health is the only question, and he can get all the recovery time he needs while Stolarz is playing well.

I guarantee that Leafs management isn't giving up on him.

Woll has shown us he is very fragile, physically… But he has also shown us that, come playoff time, he can elevate his game when his team needs it most.

Only 7 games, but a 1.78gaa and .933 save %. No chance they are giving up on him. They just need him healthy come playoffs, clearly lol
