Softy of the night, as unanimously agreed upon by everyone, and probably even softy of the year, is this Charlie Lindgren goal on....Charlite Lindgren

Well, actually Brayden Point gets credit for the goal.

Every time I've seen a goalie do a blind backhand rim around the boards, I always thought to myself one day a goalie will mess up and backhand it into their own net. Finally on Wednesday I got to see it. I was kind of hoping it would of happened in game 7 OT of the SCF, but hey, can't have it all.

Also I love how he flips the puck into the crowd. That's a puck to put on a mantle somewhere for sure.

Just one of what I think were 3 or 4 different goals to go off a goalie’s glove yesterday.

Softy of the night is this Alexander Kerfoot goal on Ilya Samsonov

I can’t remember if it was earlier this year or last year, but Samsonov did this same exact thing last year and got scored on because. I’m pretty sure it was last year though.

So if Allen doesn’t give up two bad ones NJ should have won. That’s as fair as any evaluation of last night’s game. Allen didn’t lose the game but he didn’t win it either.

@Bleedred Would you count Laine's first goal vs the Islanders as stoppable?
I gave Sorokin a goal stoppable for it, if not only because it wasn’t one timed and he was in position for it and it goes right over his glove.

It’s a very forgivable goal on the goalie though.

Softy of the night is this Warren Foegele goal on Jake Oettinger

Wraparounds suck. Whenever there’s a question on what should be the softy of the night, I always go for the wraparound.

Sorry man, but this goal is objectively awesome. Great skill down low, great puck possession and protection, and a power move to the front of the net. A real working man's goal, a blue collar worker's dream, a sunbelt slot shot.

Edit: Not that all wraparounds are great... just this one is nice to me.

It might be a nice goal, but wraparounds are almost always on the goalie and I can tell you from doing this every night wraparounds are not common around the league in this current day and age. Sometimes I only see one or two a week in the entire league. And I've sometimes went a week or more without seeing a single, true wraparound goal.

Those goals from the goal line at really bad angles that squeak either through the goalie or through the goalie and the post are much more common goals, despite a lot of people thinking those are real stinkers. And they're still bad, but I almost never give them the softy of the night because of how common they are. Unless it's by default because there's nothing else worthy to choose from.

Now if a goalie allows a goal on a wraparound that went off a skate or shinpad or it was an own goal or something, then I don't count it as a stoppable goal on the goalie, but these clean ones I do. And with not much to choose from for my nightly softy of the night (fluky Marchessault goal was one I gave Woll a stoppable goal for, but I couldn't give it softy of the night) the wraparound won.

That doesn't mean I think you're wrong that Foegele showed great skill down low, great puck possession and protection. I agree with you.

I was actually thinking about this yesterday before I saw your response. I think that it's not mutually exclusive for a goal to be a softie and awesome. This goal is both awesome for it's lead up and soft in its end.

Fair enough
