Softy of the night is this Urho Vaakanainen goal on Jake Oettinger
I think he's been overrated.Oettinger seems to be a bit up and down this season? I thought he was rounding into a top goalie last season
By the way, Oettinger has very favorable numbers in my data in the regular season (I have his playoff stuff too, but only peeked the regular season numbers) every year (including this season) but 21-22. I’ve had him around 22%-25% goals stoppable all but the 21-22 season where I have him close to 32.5% if I looked at these numbers and divided them by his actual goals against count properly.
And I think they’re much better off with him back in the lineup than Wedgewood.
Wedgewood has been fine as Oettinger’s backup, but he was not getting it done in Oettinger’s absence. Not at all.
Wedgewood has ugly numbers this year. Not Vitek level bad, but definitely Schmid level.
Though I bet if we could differentiate his play from before Oettinger got hurt to while Oettinger was hurt it’s probably Vitek level numbers.
It was probably even more sound defensively (but it's still pretty sound defensively) during the Bowness years, his first two seasons in the league.Oettinger also plays behind a very sound defensive team. I don’t how how that can be quantified but it helps in some level.
