Then how about Faulk and Ward

Do you really need to ask these questions? You can't figure out for yourself that these are terrible proposals?

We're not trading a 24 year old first pairing defenseman on an amazing deal for a 34 year old goalie.

That would not be a smart move to help the rebuild along.

We are taking Ward off your hands .

Fleury for Lack + NYR 2nd seems fair.

I don't think Fleury would be too against it honestly. If Rutherford is trying to actively trade him Fleury will realize that he probably doesn't have much of a future in Pittsburgh after this season, so he would probably be relatively open about where he goes. He might as well become a starter for another team, instead of crippling Pittsburghs cap space.

That doesn't make up for the difference in value and we would not be trading for a 34 year old goalie anyway so it's a moot point. Those kinds of pieces aren't available from us, especially not in a deal that makes no sense given the direction the franchise is headed in.

Carolina is quite clearly rebuilding so please explain to me how it makes sense for them to give up Hanifin or Faulk right now for a 34 year old goalie when the team is still lacking in other areas and won't compete right now even with the new goalie.

I'd do that for MAF.

Canes obviously need an upgrade in the net. So far they've given up 20 goals in 5 games. Francis has put together a decent team that is finally able to score some goals. But it hasn't mattered because Lack and Ward are giving up too many soft goals.

Most of the talk I've seen if MAF but I don't see him wanting to go to Carolina. Who else is a possibility?

2017 Picks:

Let me make it easy.
I am too swamped this very second, so will send later, but
in short wanted to do something like

McDonagh + Zuc + Pirri + Ranger 2017 1st
for
Hanifin, Pesce, Murphy, Bickel and 2 more cap dumps

as that relates to this thread, would be happy to, in lieu of expanding an already full size deal, throw you a bone:
Raanta 1m x 2
AND Halverson, one of our best G prospects, well regarded

for a 7th and min cap dump head count exchange

this is of course, as a sweetener to the above

Don't need a G spec...we've got a great one in Nedeljkovic, two adaquate ones in Booth and Altschuller. We need a placeholder that will out-play our status-quo for the next 1-3 years until one of the kids can take the job.

On the earlier deal, definitely not interested in gutting our D to get rid of a cap-dump we have no problem keeping in BB and two more cap-dumps that don't exist...we traded for BB to get space between us and the floor. Our cap situation is amazing. The pieces being offered back don't make a lot of sense at that cost.

It appears the canes management is going to do this the correct way. Stock pile players and picks, and be patient... not throw away assets for over the hill 30+ year old players untill they are ready for a serious cup run.

Not that he's even available for trade or could be traded or would want to be traded there of all places anyway. So arguing with him is pointless..

If halak were really available for that price I'd have to think Carolina would be interested. They have the cap space, though they'd have to figure out something to do with Ward/lack. Is it his contract or his play that has isles fans wanting rid of him?

He's played fine. Pretty much an average NHL starter, maybe a little worse, but Greiss has been better over the last year+, and management is very high on Berube, who I believe is ready for backup duties. So mostly it's about ending the 3-goalie clown car once and for all. The contract isn't great, but there aren't any guys in need of re-signing next season so they would be fine slightly overpaying Halak for another year, just not ideal.

Canucks offer Miller for Lack i miss eddie lack

I'd laugh if this happened. That would be one of the more weirder trades that have happened in recent years or recent memory for me. Weirdest one in a long time.

Hopefully Eddie misses Vancouver too, because he's reanimated into a zombie since arriving in Carolina. I think he may become the next Ben Seivens.

Goalie upgrade...
- Jimmy Howard
- Ben Bishop (UFA)
- Jaroslav Halak
- Steve Mason (UFA) - PHI won't trade?
- Michal Neuvirth (UFA)
- Marc-Andre Fleury
- Antti Niemi
- Jonathan Bernier (UFA)
- Ryan Miller (UFA) - won't waive NTC?

Not necessarily an upgrade...
- Reto Berra (UFA)
- Kari Lehtonen
- Darcy Kuemper (UFA)
- Ondrej Pavelec (UFA)

Trading Partners
From the Atlantic - DET TBL
Inter-divisional trade - NYI PHI PIT
From out West - ANA DAL (VAN)

I agree with all your upgrades other than Howard. He should be in the not necessarily an upgrade list. I love how Howard has two great games and is good again, despite being barely better than Ward over the last 3 years.

When Ward stops 65 of 66 shots in a couple weeks and Howard goes back to getting crushed again, I'm going to laugh. And I wouldn't be surprised if Ward does that. I'm sure Ward has had an identically good 2 games or even a handful of a hot streak like that in the past 3 or 4 years. Possibly in 3 or all 4 of those years.

Slavin, Hanifin, and Pesce are untouchable, probably Slavin and Pesce more so than Hanifin.

See I would think Slavin and Hanifin are more untouchable than Pesce. Slavin is by far the more untouchable of the 3, but I've Hanifin ahead of Pesce in that department. I think the org is more in on Hanifin than Pesce.

I think his reasoning is based on Pesce's value to CAR being much higher than the market, similar in that sense to Slavin (relatively speaking).

I don't think we use our Dmen to upgrade our goalie situation. I see them using draft picks for that. We will use one of our D, probably Pesce, to trade for a forward.
