I get the skepticism, but we've seen how refs are disciplined. They want to be refereeing deep into the playoffs, but the mediocre refs get cut.I did a bit of rudimentary digging online about NHL refs and accountability. The best I could find is some insiders saying yeah everything is reviewed and there are consequences. But no one will let the public know.
So basically, yeah, refs are being held accountable, but we're not gonna tell anyone about it, you just gotta trust us. If that's not enough how bout a pinky swear and a boy scout pledge? Wink wink, nudge nudge.
Oh wait hang on, let me bust out my invisible typewriter.
Just because the NHL doesn't answer to criticism of the refereeing, doesn't mean they don't take it to heart. It reflects poorly on any league if a game is decided on a blown call. Some fans still talk about Hull's skate in the crease, Flames no goal vs TBay, Henrik's facewash. The last thing they want is a signature event messed up by a call.
