Tocchet at times has an interesting take on his team......sometimes he seems more upset about how they practice, than what they actually do during the game.

Obviously a big believer that practice habits actually do morph into on-ice performance during the games. He's probably on to something.

Practice discipline makes perfect--particularly in tight games where a team has rely on its' 'system play' to close it out.

In theory if you treat practice like a pro with respect you get more out of it and it translates

Want things in critical situations to be second nature. Not have to think about it.

That is why it's a bad idea to allow kids to get away with bad habits during a rebuild as that becomes their norm and will be hard for them to break when you are trying to turn the program around. Which is what Anaheim is finding out with Zegras and his years under Eakins.

in that jordan documentary, the players were talking about how practice was so damn intense that the actual games were pretty easy.

Don't mind Tocchet making practice as hard and intense as possible if that's the result we get.

They are not Chicago, Anaheim, SJ, AZ level so everyone else is in the mix IMO.
That's 12 teams. Not concerned with Col, Dal, who will claim 2 of the top 3 spots in the Central. Don't know where any of Min, Win, Nas, Stl will land. LV will take the Pacific. Edm, figure McDrai will get them there in the end. LA, will their goaltending hold up? Dependent on their team defence. Then it's SEA, Cal, Van.
Yeah, StL could turn out to be a four-point game when it comes to the eventual wild-card race, NYR doesn’t have the same ramifications. Finishing ahead of the central division bubble teams is the clearest path to the playoffs.

That's why I'd go Demko vs STL and NAS and leave DeSmith with NYR, despite the Rangers being the best team of the trio. Need to secure the points vs the west. Not going to win every game from those 8 other teams (and 1 of those Central teams will end up #3 in their division, in the end it won't really be a 4 point game vs that club, but have no club which team that will be).

well sports is simple in the way that (and so many players across all avenues have said it) when you don't have to think and just play, it's better, easier and you have fun, it's organic

bag the f*** out of them and make practices meaningful and you're right - i think that translates into 'just playing' and the muscle memory / habits take over

Find the right balance between that and rest, since this club travels a lot of miles. Evanson in Minny has gotten rid of game day skates as well. But, recognizes some players do like to get the feel of the ice on game day, so it's all optional practices on game days.

Vancouver has some illogical travel, but that's the reality. Go east, then west, then east again. Or go north, then south, then back north. Ott, then Tor, then back East to Mon. Ok, not the end of the world. Then later in Nov, it's Col, then SEA, then SJ, then home.

looking at some of the routing makes your head spin.. but i'm sure they will tell you that a schedule for 32 teams is HARD!

It is. It's just a pain when you have to fly over the same area twice for no reason. Ideal world, you go Tor, Ott, Mon in that order or to go all the way to Mon, then Ott, Tor and work you ways back home.

Col to SJ to Sea then home to Van is ideal. If you add up all of the "unnecessary" miles, how many hours/miles is that for the year? But, it's the reality of the NHL and scheduling 32 teams and their 50 something dates that they give the NHL to work with to fill 41 home games.

Really struggling to move tickets for this home stand.. coming off a huge home opener and a 3-2 road trip.

I had tickets through student rush available monday for $39. for a friday night game so early. little bit surprising.
Now I got a text about the rangers game on saturday. Feel like the value proposition to be a season ticket holder
