Post-Game Talk: [GM49] Canucks defeat Blues | 5-2 | Garland(2), Miller, Suter, & Myers | Prymer Myers

just finished watching the game on my mom’s amazon account haha

man hughes had two five alarm assists. that first one to thread the needle under the guy’s skate was ridiculous. that said, the last little bit he’s making around five mistakes a game. i don’t know if he’s getting tired or teams are pressuring him better but for most of the season he was making zero mistakes per game.

i feel like a jerk pointing this out because he still tilts the ice almost every shift, but for a lot of the year he was literally perfect. if he was playing basketball, he would have had an assist to turnover ratio of infinity over the first few months.

Other teams already figured it out, clamp down on him, and push back full force when he's not on ice.

i get the sense that he's trying to do too much (tocchet pointed this out in one of his pressers)... started in the buffalo game. probably just feeling the pressure that they're behind the damn calgary flames for a WC spot, which is unacceptable given what they accomplished last season.

Blue's fans are really confused on that no goal call. I thought it was pretty easy call for goalie interference.
Interference or not the ref are doing them a favour since they need to rebuild else they'll be stuck as a mediocre team. They need to flip Binnington before his value tanks.

Myers at 3m is good when he does not take stupid penalties while Myers at 6 mil was terrible no matter what. He also looks good because the other 3 should not even see the ice on a serious team barring injuries. On a contender Myers anchors the 3rd pair.

Myers has better, good, bad, ugly games. I'm waiting for Willander to take minutes away from him.

STL's aging contracts that are not aging well. Pavel is not starting his next 8 by 6 year deal and he's already declining. Saad sucks. 6 out of 8 D listed on the roster are over 31.

They have IMO a very deep prospect pool. Not a lot of elite talent but a ton of middle 6 and like Van a very wide range of potential D. So they should be selling and looking for top of the talent draft for a year or two.

My opinion may not be popular but I think the Canucks would be better served to send D-Petey back to Abbotsford. He is simply too raw and inexperienced to be trustworthy at the NHL level, even in sheltered minutes. Very promising future though. I would rather see Brisebois (or even Juulsen) take safer bottom pair minutes with Soucy.

Fun game to watch last night. Suter is a nice luxury to have and one the Canucks probably will not be able to afford next season. And this game is yet another example of why trading Garland would be a bad idea. It is hard to find a player like that.

The safe no ceiling players don't generally get overpaid.

I hope you're right as I would love to see him back but there are a number of young teams that will have some cap space and the perceived need for a smart, calm player to supplement an existing young core. He is also proving to be an exceptional penalty killer. We'll see what happens but I suspect that other teams will be more motivated to get him than a team like Vancouver that arguably has in-house replacements (Blueger, Raty, Sasson all of whom are cheaper but not yet as good). That can change if the Canucks do not obtain an NHL-calibre Top-6 Centre in trading JT or Petey.

I said it before Christmas, I don't envy Allvin right now. There are far too many decisions to be made right now that could very quickly cost him his job. He comes out looking like a genius or he comes out looking like Benning OR worse both and the Canucks have gone absolutely nowhere. Lol.

Tonight's result pretty well cinches it.......the Canucks will ride Lankinen until he either drops from fatigue, or his performance badly slips.

With 34-games remaining, the Canucks are already into 'must-win; territory most every night. They just can't afford letting Demko continue his training camp rehab.

It's so tempting, but that's how you break a guy. Goalies these days just can't play the number of games that a Brodeur or a Roy did. They're too big and the style is too punishing.

He could trade Petey for Peanuts, Miller for Magic Beans, badly lose every trade he makes for the next three years and he still would not look as bad as Benning.

St Louis is not a good team. Neither is Calgary.

Watching a game like this, it’s really frustrating that these are the teams that the Canucks will be competing against this season, rather than Edmonton, Vegas or Los Angelas.

I'd rather be competing with those teams instead of being a lottery team. Those teams don't have a Quinn Hughes to build around - he tilts the ice for almost half the game. If this management group can get its shit together and ice a quality defence aside from Hughes, and get at least one of its centers playing like a star, we can get back to contender status. We'd still need a lot of things to go right but at least the hope is there.

You don't like Demko, Hughes, Pettersson, Miller, Boeser, Garland? You don't like any good player on the team?

My joke fell flat it seems! I love those players and have taken the position that they should not trade Miller or J.T. unless blown out of the water, at least until summer. I also have argued they should extend Boeser so long as it is reasonable and they should not trade Garland as he provides an element they really need. My point was that Benning was so bad that it is almost impossible for Allvin to ever get to that level of badness!

My apologies. I only got 2 hours of sleep after being up for 26 hours. Your position of trade Miller or J.T. is obviously clear ;);).

I was and still am in this core isn't working anymore and chemistry has always been off and on for far too long and it's time to move pieces and parts. I don't fall in love with players much, I see mostly value and they all have different values. Just depends on which direction they would like to go. I think current pieces look like 2 years from now window could open again if done right.

🤣 Maybe I need some more sleep too!
