I don't buy it imo, this canucks medical staff, management, and ownership have a history of making the wrong calls for medical decisions.

----Is this a Hot Take? ----

And like i said, they were stupid for letting him play, I don't care how amazing he was that game.

Extremely short sighted decision, even with rick denying it had an impact.

We had a break as well coming up, Quinn could have chilled for over a week, not a fan of this what so ever.

Yeah.

Would be pretty silly to not at least question the decision.

That's a weird way to spell "the Sun".

Yeah, this is not good to say the least. Oh well, shit happens, not much we can do about it.

Interesting note from the SN650 morning show today ... Brannstrom led all defenders in 5-on-5 ice time against Seattle. When he was on the ice the Canucks outshot the Kraken 10-4. After the Juulsen tomfoolery deflection goal, Brannstrom played one more shift the rest of the game. The rest of the defense can't move the puck.

Canucks need to make a move honestly, a Month without Quinn Hughes can kill us.
Don't take a 1st, but move what else we have.

Keep Lekk/Willander and EP2, move next years picks and other prospects for a upgrade.

We have nothing of any value. Maybe someone bites on next years first but highly unlikely we get any type of needle mover for that either.

To me this is the opposite, last year when everything was going great you add to the team aggressively like Rutherford did.

A season like this you only shop long term for another Hronek type deal, and those are super rare trades and difficult to find a partner for.
Exactly

Unbelievably cursed season for a cursed franchise when you add everything up.

Demko out for months
Joshua gets cancer
Boeser takes a dirty cheapshot and still hasn't quite recovered
Hronek out for months
Hughes out for weeks now
Pettersson now potentially out weeks
Miller out a month for personal issues

After a promising season last year, apparently the hockey gods decided (again) that Canucks fans can't have nice things.

Yup, season has felt off for a long time. Now it's completely effed. I will continue to watch and cheer of course but don't spend any assets on saving this year. It should all be focused on next year and beyond. That's hockey ... mostly difficult and not a lot of seasons like last years.

It's not all doom and gloom though. See how the team does ... you never know we may weather the storm and get everyone back in the end for a run still.

Bad team scorer. Flourishes when there’s no structure and he’s only asked to score goals but can’t fit into a cohesive system.

One of those rare breeds with all the skills in the world but little to nothing in the mental aspect approach to pro hockey.

Brannstrom and Desharnais had a score adjusted 64 CF % rate and 70+% xGF rate the last game.

Desharnais now running a score adjusted 50% CF%/60 xGF% with Brannstrom, 37%/30% without.

I can see the reasoning for not playing him in the last five minutes when protecting a lead when the goal is minimizing chances against, but at this point the guy should not come out of the lineup until they bring in someone better.

I'm not even sure why they wouldn't use him to protect a lead at this point, its not like the rest of the bunch inspires a lot of confidence while defending. At this point I'm not even sure why they don't bring up a Kudryatsev or Pettersson as a reward for their play so far and give them a taste of some NHL action...and as a wakeup call to some of these other guys that NHL lineup spots shouldn't be taken for granted.

Dealing with Injuries
  • Don’t use it as excuses; creates situations of opportunity
  • These guys will get back soon and that’s an opportunity
Playing with Composure
  • Need to make a play under pressure if you want to be in the NHL
  • Worked on this during practice and talked about it
  • Need poise and predictability
  • When you are missing people, predictable is better because it calms the nerves
  • Last 5-10 minutes against the Kraken, had situations where they had guys to give the puck to and didn’t
  • Most overused word in coaching is “learning lesson”
Brisebois
  • Has talked to Foote about him; they aren’t sure when he’ll play
  • Would like to get him in the line-up
  • Not sure if he’ll play on the road trip
  • Some guys play better in the NHL than AHL because they work better in a structured atmosphere
DeBrusk
  • Good at coming in from behind and getting to the net; finds the loose pucks
  • Best goalscorers all play on the inside but no when to go outside; playing inside sets up for the outside goals
Sasson
  • Has added some speed to the line-up
  • Last game, transported the puck from the Canucks’ blueline to the offensive end with speed
Game Against the Flames
  • Netfront presence could be better
  • Need to get more shoots through from the point; a lot are getting blocked
  • Either have to move your feet & change the angle or pass the puck quicker when on the point; worked on these things in practice
  • Need to get more shots on net and bodies in front
Low Shot Totals
  • If the shots are off the wing and are just thrown at the net, that’s useless
  • If someone has a shot in the middle of the ice but they pass it to the flanker, that’s concerning to him; need to get those types of shots
  • There are execution plays they need to be better at but also wants quality shots
  • Counted about 10 times, in the first 10 minutes of the game, where they had the opportunity to get the puck on net with traffic but deferred
Brannstrom
  • Has to have patience with the puck and know when to go and when not to go
  • Can’t be Quinn Hughes, needs to be himself
  • Wants him to walk the blueline
Hughes’ Impact Off The Ice
  • Hughes thinks hockey 24/7
  • Adds to the love of the game; it’s contagious
  • Told Tocchet that he’s bored
  • When a guys are injured, you want them to be itching to get back
Injury Timelines
  • Hughes is week-to-week
  • Pettersson is more day-to-day
  • Neither will be on the road trip
