Weird series of games. Convincing wins over Florida and Colorado, awful loss to Boston sandwiched in the middle. This is also probably why you don't overreact after one bad loss.
Biggest thing was that both Miller and Pettersson were very good tonight. This is the first game since the first half of last season where both were above-average while playing C on different lines, and the team is just totally different when that's the case. If both those guys are going and playing to their potential, we're a Cup contender. If they aren't, we aren't.
Sherwood is ridiculous. Good game for all the foot soldiers - Heinen, Suter, Blueger were all winning battles and gumming up what Colorado was trying to do.
Desharnais had maybe his best game of the season, at a good time where scouts were probably watching him closely.
Hughes wasn't terrible but had an awkward night against Colorado as usual.
Myers and Soucy were both very good. Juulsen continues to play well.
A real shame they didn't get the SO for Demko but this game has to be a huge confidence builder for him.

Lots of strong efforts tonight:
- Demko looked in control and dialed in
- Miller had jump from the opening faceoff, could have had 3 points easily
- Pettersson looked engaged, must have had clear instructions to get shot attempts
- Most of the D-men were pretty solid outside of a tough start for Brannstrom, Myers in particular had a strong game
- Sherwood, obviously
Not perfect, some breakdowns, but pretty strong all around effort against a dangerous team. The heat was on and the squad responded well.

I’m old school so I don’t love saying “shutout” when it’s a possibility but let’s be real, we have 0 effect on the game sitting on our couches.

Juulsen is better the more he plays for long stretches. Same as last year.
They were way better organised and disciplined and motivated last year. That's my current concern. Obviously a porous D and key injuries haven't helped, but they desperately need to build some good, consistent habits over the rest of the regular season.
So Sherwood now up to 11 goals; while Marchassault has seven; and Stamkos with eight.

What a difference when they play with energy and focus right from the start. They once again looked like a TEAM.

The team is good and doesn't need a shake up.
Find a 2LD who can move the puck and carry their pairing and we're back to the team we were in the last quarter of the regular season last year. The problem is entirely the second pairing and that should be fixable without nuking the roster.

The team can be good. It can also be horrid. The key is finding consistency. We have beat the Panthers and Avalanche in a week. We also have lost to Boston etc.
well kind of fitting to quiet the drama - everyone played their assess off for a desevered win but no one but kiefer sherwood got goals and only the role players got points.

Someone needs to flat out ask Tocch if either 9 or 40 asked to not be on the PP together. He will deny it but maybe we can get a read. Cuz this was odd.
