VD had a strong bounce back, his price went up to a 6th rounder.
Hoglander was forechecking hard but played less than 8 minutes.

The team can be good. It can also be horrid. The key is finding consistency. We have beat the Panthers and Avalanche in a week. We also have lost to Boston etc.
the problem is it's a trickle down effect from the thin back end. You're not going to find consistency in non-Hughes minutes because everyone is playing way over their head.

i just think they need to add one more defensemen because they're going to get Hronek back and Willander is going to provide value raising the group's floor.

Weird series of games. Convincing wins over Florida and Colorado, awful loss to Boston sandwiched in the middle. This is also probably why you don't overreact after one bad loss.

Biggest thing was that both Miller and Pettersson were very good tonight. This is the first game since the first half of last season where both were above-average while playing C on different lines, and the team is just totally different when that's the case. If both those guys are going and playing to their potential, we're a Cup contender. If they aren't, we aren't.

Sherwood is ridiculous. Good game for all the foot soldiers - Heinen, Suter, Blueger were all winning battles and gumming up what Colorado was trying to do.

Desharnais had maybe his best game of the season, at a good time where scouts were probably watching him closely.

Hughes wasn't terrible but had an awkward night against Colorado as usual.

Myers and Soucy were both very good. Juulsen continues to play well.

A real shame they didn't get the SO for Demko but this game has to be a huge confidence builder for him.
I think a big part of the issue is that Tocchet hockey requires an incredible amount of energy. The Canaucks had the will and energy against teams like Florida and Colorado tonight.

But against Boston, they were just flat....and couldn't find that extra 5-10 percent effort.

Assuming the flu hit more than just the guys sitting out, it makes some sense. People weirdly act like having a virus is no big deal for professional athletes. If it's a true flu, I can't perform my damn office job, let alone do something physical.

Makar and Hughes were both average tonight. Sucks that Makar gets a 2nd assist on a garbage time goal but he may have been better than Quinn tonight overall, outside of KS outskating him

Sherwood truthfully is pretty spectacular and a secret weapon ,

Good to see a full team effort and Demko back to his A game

Got to wonder how much the illness that had been working its way through the lineup played a part in the Boston game...

The defense is awful outside of Hughes/Hronek, and whichever of the rest of the dmen decides to take their turn in the rotation of temporarily being slightly better than a bottom pairing player.

Get a defense that can transition the puck and watch the team become a lot more consistent overnight.

Like watching EP buzz around having a good shift and he has to pass it to Juulsen to keep the play moving, and Juulsen promptly turns it over, that causes huge problems when its a consistent phenomenon. Players eventually either play suboptimally trying to play around the bad players or lose confidence/stop trying as hard when they're stuck with grenade handlers who are going to instantly ruin their hard work. To say nothing of how it kills the actual play itself, consistently.

I have no idea. It feels like it was a thing more recently than that. I still expect it to be waived off every time and then I'm like 'oh yeah' when it's not.

That stopped the 1998/1999 season.

Another thing, JT is doing a after hours interview on sportsnet and he is in great spirits. Looks like he is back to his old self. He was quite stoked with the way his team played and I don't blame him. That was a awesome effort tonight.

Ummmmm I watched the same interview. You thought that was him being “stoked”?? He looked miserable lol. But not exceptionally miserable. Just the usual miserable.

I think somebody posted that Hughes sounded like he was under the weather, based on a pre-game interview. Maybe he's also recovering from the flu.

Trotz should probably just resign before he makes any further moves to ruin the Preds. His awful moves over the last six months rivals any similar period of Benning’s reign of error and that’s hard to top.

He’s also decline all media requests. It’s been attributed to the high-stick damage but if he has been sick, that’s a good excuse.

I'm going to go against the grain and say we win this one. Predictably unpredictable.

Hey, I got one right!

Sucked to lose the goose egg so close to the end, but great to see Demko get the first W of the year. And what else to be said about Sherwood? Awesome performance.

Nice bounce back game. Now keep going.

Old guys don’t like advanced stats. Unfortunately (for some) those stats are now available. We no longer use the “eye test” to rate players. There’s a metric for shot suppression, zone entry , zone exit, goals above expected , PDO, etc.
