Playing Demko tonight sends the signal that the coaching staff does not trust the team to properly execute their system right now.

Every coach has a player that they have irrational love for, I guess Juulsen is this player for Tocchet.

I know SJ has won 3 of their last 6, but I'm still not sure how? Look at that roster, there is like 1 NHL top-6 forward, and 0 NHL top-4 defenseman.
might be footes call

The next road trip sucks too. At Colorado then Sea then SJ. So have to make an extra flight covering the distance from sea to SJ to add more miles onto the legs.

If he is, they haven't said anything.

Whenever Friedman has got in, his ice time has dipped to at or below 10 minutes. I haven't noticed a big drop in his play from when he first was acquired so I don't understand why they've significantly cut back his minutes even before his benching.

It's really weird.

They traded for him because Juulsen was awful in the first couple games, he came in and played really well and that Cole-Friedman pairing didn't allow an ES goal for like 7 or 8 games in a row.

And then his minutes dropped because Myers started playing better ... and fair enough, whatever. But he was still playing pretty well and not making obvious mistakes.

But then somehow Juulsen gets back in over him and stays in the lineup despite looking like an absolute dumpster fire. It makes no sense.

I think the size thing mentioned earlier is spot on. Team doesn't want to dress Hirose AND Friedman.

Dumb though. Anyways it looks like Friedman is back in tonight.

Not going to call game 19 a must win, especially after we've built up some cushion, but we can't afford not to take 2 points tonight.

Hopefully the boys aren't going in expecting 10 goals again. Like to see them get back to the "staples" tonight and really focus on sound structure for 60 minutes.
Not going to call this game a must win, but its a must not loose.

I’m calling this a must win game

I don’t want to see a 3 games losing streak
Character game. Have to stop the slide when you’re up vs the worst team. These is a busy schedule with lots of travel. Came off 6 straight games with a flight before the game and that included 2 home games in there. Nip this in the bud.

Demko being in is fine. Figure DeSmith will get the SJ game in SJ on the B2B. Whether he gets the Avs game or not is up to Tocchet. But he can run Demko out for 3 straight if he wants.

Definitely need a win tonight. We've let four easy points split away playing a little too fat and happy. The boys need to gear up and get back to working order cause it ain't getting easier with Colorado and Vegas coming up.
They do need a win tonight..They are far from playing fat and happy..They just hit a point in the schedule where they are exhausted....As with any job, if you're tired, you're prone to making mistakes (or cheating a little).

Lets hope that they can snap out of the doldrums tonight.

Need to get that Hughes-Hronek pairing back on track like franking now.

Or simply break them up

absolutely tragic number of games recently at even strength

Friedman with Hughes has been tried.

They've only played 1 of the last 3 games together. You keep talking about how bad that pairing has been but Hughes-Juulsen played as a pairing against NYI/Calgary.

I'd start Demko in the SJ games this week. Just try and bank the wins where you can.

COL on the road will be tough regardless of who's in net.

They played some shifts together especially late against Calgary when we were chasing the game.

Did you watch the games?

This is a must win, even if it's by 1 goal.
I wouldn't say this is a must win. Looking at the Pacific Division, looks like the top 3 teams had pulled away. I don't see the Ducks or Krakens catching up (in fact the Ducks has already started to fade after a hot start), the Flames are already looking to sell and retool, the Oilers are still a mess, and then there are the Sharks.

Zooming out to the Western conference, the wild card spots are held by teams with 19 and 18 points, and at most have 1 game on hand on us. Unless the bottom completely falls out, the Nucks are in good shape.

Obviously a win is expected against a team as bad as the sharks, but I wouldn't call this a must win game.
