GDT: GAME 50 | Utah HC @ Sens | No Rest for the Wicked Edition | Sun Jan 26 2025, 5PM | TSN5, RDS2

It's not bad hockey. We outchanced them, while also playing sound defensive hockey, despite key injuries, and on a b2b, while playing 10 games in 16 days.

We did what we needed to win under these circumstances. That's what good teams do.
We had some really bad turnovers and were being out skated for about 35-minutes of this game. We got some lucky breaks and capitalized on our chances, but it could have easily gone the other way. Our third period was much better and what I expect from this team. However, seeing as this is a back to back game there are a lot of reasons that this team had no legs.

The boys keep finding ways to win! Tired team once again finds a way to strangle the other team for most of the game and then capitalize on a few offensive chances.

Being able to win these games when we’re not at our best, and have a few key injuries, is yet another stepping stone in our team arriving on the scene.

Nice work by Grieg, G, and Brady to all bump slumps to get it done.

That was a poor 40 minute performance. Thank god for Levi. Happy for the win. Happy for Brady to get one after an abysmal stretch of hockey. Hell even Hamonic had a good last two games, nice to see.

But let’s not act like this effort gets you a win 7/10 games. Our backups and D have been beasts but overall play has been poor and lots of passengers on this win. That’s not being a hater. Let’s keep playing like that 3rd period and there will be faith from the “haters”. Nice close to an ugly game, win is a win time for a beer.
Right now the only thing that matters are the two points. Personally I don't care how they play as long as they win. And also last time i checked the goaltender is part of the team. You think the Jets are winning hockey games because they outplay the other team or maybe it's because they have Hellebuyck in net?

Yeah you’re probably right, if it wasn’t for Hellebuyk the Jets wouldn’t be the highest scoring team in the league.

After all the doom & gloom on here & the Sens are tied for 3rd spot in the division & in a playoff spot. It took a while today for them to get their legs, they really seemed out of sync for a period & a half & luckily Utah was unable to take advantage due to some good goaltending & defensive play again. Nice to see 3 guys break slumps tonight. This team just took another big step tonight in their maturity.

Well with Mike Comrie they are 3-7-1, so they're not scoring goals when Comrie is in net???

Well Mike Comrie played forward mostly for oilers, and briefly Sens I guess, and retired over a decade ago. But if you mean Eric Comrie, the jets backup goalie, then I guess you can somehow relate his above average save percentage to the Jets losing sometimes over a 10 game sample size. You do you brother.

I thought I saw a story just this weekend from one of the pundits claiming Utah is expected to be aggressive at the deadline. Didn't sound like they were packing it in and selling.
Utah picked up Sergachev in the off season. He’s injured. Guenther is injured. I don’t think you can just assume they are still in the perpetual rebuild.

When is the last time the sens were third in the division? Especially past the midway point.

God damn. Even though it won't last... that is exciting to see. They're looking pretty good for a wildcard spot.

Pretty much checks out with how the team thinks they played.

“It wasn’t that great the first two periods,” Giroux said. “I feel like we were still defending OK, and our goalie made some big saves for us to keep us in it. But it was 1-1 after two and it didn’t feel like it. I think in the third we kind of cranked it up a level and played a little better.”

It's cool to disagree and debate with each other and you don't have to like or be liked by everybody - but some of you guys fight too much on an internet forum. We're 3rd in the division. Let's all embrace each other.

Gotta step back and put into perspective how special it is that we can still support a web forum through intrusive ad banners in 2025 when Facebook, Twitter, and Readdit have killed all the other forums. Bodybuilding.com doesn't even exist anymore.

Wow the bitching and moaning in the first half of this thread is amazing to read. Some of you guys act like the Sens are in last place and on a 7 game losing streak down 5-0 in this game.
If you are not happy with where the team is considering how long Ullmark has been out plus the other injuries then I just think you just like complaining for the hell of it.

Terrible post.

Tell me you're a casual without telling me you're a casual. A lot of the posts are highlighting Senators' difficulty to play consistent hockey and our inept offense which is last in the league since November 1st (3 months now).

All of which is entirely justified. Our goalies have been lights out and it is unsustainable (outside of Ullmark).

We were literally just shutout 5 times in last 11 games or something, lol.

What a difference a day makes...

Every other time we've been in a spot of "we just need to do this and..." we've dropped the ball, so it feels extra good to land on the right side for once, obviously hope it's the start of a trend

We aren’t the only teams to play back to back. Having the legs go in the 3rd period can happen, but we were the opposite where the start of the game was disjointed and we woke up after the 2nd goal. It’s the inability to make plays, puck bobbling, etc. that has stood out lately and not just tonight. The motor is not the problem it’s the steering.

I don't know, it's often the case that when you're tired, it's the getting going part that's hardest.

Like think of going to the pub with a bad hangover. Sometimes those first couple of beers can be a real struggle. But you power through, maybe throw a shot in there and by the 3rd you can really hit your stride :D
