If Marchand did the same thing the NHL will send him a fruit basket.

Hoglander unfortunately has a reputation for dirty play. Was suspended 5 games for a really bad hit (elbow, iirc?) in the Swedish league before coming over.

My wife is so confused. Not necessarily about why it's a match penalty but why that is punished more than punching someone in the face. Her argument is that there's nothing with more intent to injure than punching the head.
A gloved punch doesn't usually lead to a concussion. Throwing someone to the ice could have serious consequences.

I didn’t find Hog’s takedown overtly dirty, it’s a battle but you cant use your leg to take someone down…penalty, sure…match penalty? No way. The worst part of that play was Labanc’s skates come flying upward…always hate seeing that.

Eh, I think that was a reasonable call. I started watching at the beginning of the period and I haven't seen the refs make one wrong decision.

I have to admit I don't see the big deal with what Hoglander did. They were both stationary and battling and Hoglander just had better positioning and scored the takedown. If they were moving I could see the issue, but if an NHL helmet and pads can't protect you from a fall then they need to be redesigned.

Did the broadcast say it's an automatic match penalty for intent to injure calls?

Also, will Drance bring up the "black jerseys get penalized more" again to Tocc in the post-game?

Slam the back of someone’s head against the ice hard and you’ll find out what the difference is

I agree with @MS

After seeing the replay, that was a slew foot.

But I do take issue with the NHL's consistency in applying attempt to injure rules

because I don't think hog intentionally did what he did there

but you'll see players take two hand slashes or cross checks to players in vulnerable positions, or intentional headshots etc whatever like really vile shit that can alter a player's career and it's just looked past

but that slew foot is what gets actual in game punishment idk just interesting

He should because one of the things Drance and I agree on is that they are TRASH.

Very reasonable call. Slewfoot + throw down after = intent to injure.

Hoggy’s gotta dial it down a bit but good game from him. I doubt he sees any more discipline though.
