The Canucks just don't make themselves available in the offensive zone - consistently just get boxed out and are chasing along the boards. The only players that remotely do this are Hughes and Garland - everyone else is static and coasting. This needs to change.

The defense... Enough has been said. Tire fire performances everyone not named Hughes and Hronek. Soucy just doesn't look like the player he was last year. Myers belongs on the 3rd pair for good reason.

It’s a combination of things. We don’t have puck movers beyond Hughes. This system of Tocchet’s does not allow for transition offense. We are also in the bottom half percentile in skating speed for forwards.

I don’t think our complete inability to create shots in the 2nd half and playoffs last year was a fluke or “Tocchet coaching more defensively because of Demko”.

i do think tocchet coaches an outdated system that overvalues possession and undervalues effective chances but i don't think there's any system this roster can really succeed at. they aren't fast enough or big enough to generate enough offense off a forecheck, they don't have the dynamic puck carriers to advance the puck in the neutral zone and their defenders can't make a fast break pass. it's mostly just a bunch of tall defenders and forwards who are good "wall guys"

This team is just way too slow in general. A fast team will blow them out every time.

Team speed has a lot more to do with how good your back end transitions the puck than the actual skating speed of your players. Given the gong show in the bottom 4, I’m not surprised everyone looks like they’re skating in mud.

Tocchet is right, he’s been way too soft on the team. They look more like they did under Boudreau with their laziness, Miller not looking back at Soucy to realize he’s changing it before throwing it back into the zone being a prime example.

Guys need to get their heads out of their asses, and that includes the coach being soft on guys - he needs to go back to what he was doing when he first got here vs just trusting that guys will pick themselves up.
