They could have been rollingRight now the Ducks are using McTavish, Zegras and Carlson down the middle. and all of them are 23 and under. I realize there's such a thing as 'learning on the job' but seems to me all the Ducks will do is ruin their development.
And looking around the Honda Centre.......the barn looked half empty. Maybe the election had something to do with it, but this franchise isn't in a very good place right now.
What the Quinn Hughes. That is insane.
Small sample at this point but they’re running a 57% CF/xGF rate together. Even if they fall back down to earth a bit, that’s a great third line cobbled together with $5 million/year in UFA contracts. That Blueger-Sherwood-Heinen line is looking great.
Play with drive and pace, support each other well on the rush.

Need to keep that together even after Joshua comes back. That Blueger-Sherwood-Heinen line is looking great.

Credit to Cook Allvin for finding some spice after the Desharnais/Forbort signings were looking to be mistakes. But we do have the problem where, if injuries stack up, we'll have half our blueline be very slow defensemen who can't move the puck fast. Given how well Brannstrom has fit, maybe Allvin overreacted to losing Z...Through 6 games the Desharnais and Brannstrom pair has an XGF% of around 70. I know he's been a bit of a whipping boy and the contract value is meh but Desharnais/Brannstrom has worked far better than any other bottom pair and I think Desharnais is pretty clearly one of the top 6 defenceman on the team.

It still blows my mind no one was willing to give Sherwood more money. His metrics last year were great, and he’s a physical pest. I get the lack of track record, but Sam Lafferty (0 points so far in 12 games) got 2 million for being clearly worse…but 2 inches taller?
There were also reports of the Canucks looking for a third line center alongside a defensemen, but I can’t believe that’s true with the way Blueger has been playing. Fourth line so Suter can play wing? Maybe, but hardly a priority pre-deadline with the current depth.
Heinen reminds me of a more skilled Nils Aman, in the way that it seems like he’s doing nothing, but he never costs you either. For a streaky scorer, that’s a good trait to have.
Yakov Trenin is another one. He got more than twice as much AAV for twice as long. He’s a useful player and can play centre in a pinch I guess, but he’s never had a season as good as Sherwood’s last year.It still blows my mind no one was willing to give Sherwood more money. Desharnais has been solid of late, both Forbort & Desharnais have gotten better as the season has progressed, could have to do with getting accustomed to coaching/systems but adding mobile Brannstrom to the bottom pairing rotation (over Juulsen) was a big boost. Strong performance. First 10 minutes were a little wobbly but we absolutely destroyed a crappy Anaheim team for the last 50 minutes.
The whole Pettersson/Hughes goal thing was super weird. Pettersson didn't appear to touch it, didn't celebrate, didn't lead the handshake line. Like, is he so broken he doesn't even try to claim what would be a big goal for him now? Or did the team just manage to successfully argue for him to get a charity goal to boost his confidence? So strange.
Hughes was just unbelievable last night. One of the most dominant games of his career, was just everywhere and looked like he was playing an AHL team.
That said, am I the only one that thinks '3rd fastest D to 300 assists' is kind of a weird/meaningless thing and who didn't get the big fuss made about it?
Sherwood-Blueger-Heinen are basically performing like an elite 2nd line. Heinen is such a weird player - absolutely nothing pops in terms of the eye test but he's just always in the right places at both ends of the rink and has plus hands when scoring opportunities arise around the net.
Thought Pettersson was poor again aside from doing a couple decent things on the PP. Saw 3 separate occasions where he was favoured to win a puck race and then just stopped skating and conceded the play.
Miller's line was solid, if not spectacular. Miller against Anaheim's kids in the faceoff circle was just unfair.
Hoglander showed some more jump and pushback in this game after a series of pretty insipid performances. More of that, please.
Desharnais had a better game, don't remember a case of the play getting behind him which has been his big problem. Another strong game for Brannstrom.
Soucy was horrible in the 1st but I thought the last 40 minutes was maybe the best he's looked this season aside from one dumb penalty.
Lankinen rock solid again. Best value contract in the NHL right now.
You're not the only one. This one was kind of borderline to me, it's not...the worst offender of this kind of stuff. When I see one of those things like "oh wow this player is the 4th fastest player to reach 100 points only 2 years after the rookie year trade deadline while being on waivers after Buttman said he was a good player who went almost undrafted..." I just laugh at the people who think it's some kind of achievement.
Hughes is awesome though, and this 3rd fastest defenseman to reach 300 ast is kind of...OK? I guess? But anymore conditions on top will just make it sound completely ridiculous.
