I think he just backed himself into a corner by coasting on the "I want to see if this team can get it together" narrative. The team, perhaps shockingly, DID get it together so every day he continued to shrug off extension talks the pressure ramped up more and more. Sure he said he didn't want to talk about the contract during the season but everyone knew that was odd. Even management said it was highly unusual.

I think he felt he had to sign or he just wouldn't be able to handle the pressure that would mount.

Brutal defence this period. I think lankinen didn't need to be locked on that play which is how the wraparound snuck in. But then desharnais reaching at the blueline and nobody took the trailer. Just super sloppy.
