A top five guy should be starting for you in 2020, a top 10 guy by 2021 at the worst.
That has value in two ways, not only another starter with great upside, but the option to move another player in trade and also clear out cap room if needed.

The object is not to make the playoffs in 2019, but to build a dominant team that can compete for a Cup for a decade. You rarely get a shot at a top player in the draft, so you never trade them.

Making the playoffs is most definitely a goal. The part where we compete for a Cup for a decade needs to start now, not next year. You might as well go for it while your best players are in their prime.

New coach will ask the GM to find another team for him, even it means a sweetener and eating salary. JVR is nearly useless at ES. He has great hands if you let him coast to the net on the PP and set him up to roof it from the creasetop. If he has to retrieve the puck or reach 2 feet to check anyone, forget it. A bad signing of a soft player who is never in danger of breaking a sweat.

Never go full Jtown. You just end looking ridiculous down the line.

Keith would be a great #4/5 defenseman for the remainder of his deal considering his skating. He won’t have to play heavy minutes and would be a great mentor to the young group of defensemen in this team. Additionally, if Quenneville is brought in, he’d be the perfect player to help get the message across to the dressing room.

Ideally they take MacDonald back as a cap dump and he essentially takes his role. Regardless, this team has the cap room to add three or four contracts with sizable cap hits. Keith would be a good fit, just wouldn’t move the 2019 1st for him.

I think it’s likely more prospects are moved than draft picks.

I don't think AMac would take his place on Chicago if he went there as a cap dump. Keith's still got at least a couple years left as a certified top-pairing guy, currently playing ~22.5 minutes per night with .5PPG and an even +/1 (I know) on a team with an astounding -34 goal differential. But yeah, he'd spend a few years in the top 4 and then retire or play out the last couple on the bottom pairing, ideally.

I meant Keith taking over MacDonalds role. More so just MacDonald replacing his cap hit in Chicago.

Holy f*** Chuck. You are a god damn idiot and you are letting Dave Scott run the show here.

1. Carter Hart is not f***ing ready
2. You are using Hart as a distraction for the pissed off fanbase because you missed out on Q. Well if they have to put up with Hakstol lets give them Hart
3. Hart is going to inevitably struggle, because he is not jesus, and when he does it is going to justify a trade for a goalie. And knowing your background we are going to get trade raped.

Stolarz is on IR. Elliott might still be injured. Who knows with Neuvirth but that dude is made of glass anyways.

I don't really see the problem here, Hart has made it known he wants to play in the NHL. Let him get a game or two, not really a big deal.

You don't see a problem in exposing a top tier prospect to the nhl after showing no signs of being ready for this level at the ahl. ALso factor in the dumpster fire that is occurring with this organization at the nhl level. You keep Lyon up and you move forward, simple as that.

Disagree with you on this one, JTown. Hart has one of the best resumes of any goalie prospect in years. He was off his game joining a new team & league, but played well in preseason, & his track record should count for something. It won’t ruin him to give him the opportunity. It’s not like he can’t be sent back.

you can't compare preseason nhl to regular season. He has agreat track record. But there are no proven track records of goalies coming up to the nhl at this age. It could very well ruin him, given the fact that our coach is the single worst head coach for goalie usage i have ever seen.

The top ones can do it. Price & Vasilevskiy made the NHL at 20. Roy. Barrasso was 19.
I don’t agree that it could ruin him. If he looks bad, send him down. If he’s unable to recover, he probably never was going to make it to begin with. I see no problem giving him a shot; it’s not like he’s an average goalie prospect. He’s a record setting junior goalie with two WJC appearances including a gold medal.

I think people are pissed in general because the season’s been awful & we had our hopes up yesterday about Quenneville replacing Hak. I think they’re overreacting to Hart, but I understand the pessimistic mindset.

im upset about hart , because it seems like we keep compounding our mistakes as an organization. THis is a kid you should just leave in the minors all year.

Agree with this 100%. I'm excited to see Hart get some time. If he glaringly proves not ready you send him back down, tell him what he needs to work on, he works on it and comes back stronger. A taste is a good thing for a guy like him. He is strong mentally and can handle it.

Considering Detroit wants a 1st for Jimmy Howard, I’m okay with Hart playing a few games and if it’s clear he’s not ready, send him down immediately. This is more out of necessity than anything.

Hextall once brought Ghost upout of necessity before he was assumed to be ready if anyone can recall
