Post-Game Talk: GM 70 | Blues def. Canucks | 4-3 (OT) (Boeser x2, Sherwood) | So close.

Frustrating game to watch, they really weren't playing very well. Problems passing into each others' skates, problems simply getting the puck deep... just not a very cohesive or smart game. Way too nonchalant in OT, and really quite pathetic how they dicked around and couldn't even get the puck into the Blues' end at 3v3. Oh, and yet another game with a lack of shots on net...

Myers... Myers is as Myers does; what a dumbass braindead job defending his man on the 3rd Blues goal. Manages to turn what should've been a sharp-angle shot, into an easy backdoor tap-in. Sometimes his brain just shuts off, and of coarse it had to happen in such a big game.

Good to see EP continue to collect points, and to see Boeser is back from the dead.

I still do not understand the fascination with Myers on the top pair. Could work as a one of situation but at this point when every game and every play have so much weight to them, he should not be anywhere above 4D.

Not ideal but not catastrophic, the 1 point was very important.

Because he's been very good pretty much ever since he was separated from Soucy early in the season, especially when he was paired with Hughes while Hronek was injured.

I'm no Myers apologist; I hated his original Benning signing from day 0. But anyone who thinks he hasn't played well for the most part under Tocchet is out to lunch.

Yes he makes some ridiculous mistakes, but so do most D-men, especially those who are being paid 3M like he is. Would it be nice if we had more D-men that could play ahead of him? Sure, but that's not reality. Maybe Willander can come in and play at a 2nd pair level right away pushing Myers down to the 3rd pair, but we're still weeks away from that and that's if Willander is actually ready for that. And yeah the 3rd pair should probably be getting more minutes but that's not a Myers problem, that's a Tocchet problem.

I despise his chaos moments like the one on the 3rd goal against as much as anyone but whoever thinks Myers hasn't been well worth his cap and important to this team while they've dealt with injuries on the back end needs to give their head a shake.

In the biggest game of the season.

In sudden death overtime.

The 5th highest paid player in the league WATCHES THE PUCK ROLL OFF HIS STICK AND DOESN'T EVEN TAKE A f***ING STRIDE
He fumbled it yeah, but he had coverage until debrusk decided it was a swell time for a line change at which point st, Louis player saw it, and took off for the 2 on 1.

Not a great play by 40 but a terrible play by debrusk who has decided that down the stretch is the best time of the year to just float around and do literally nothing.

Both 40 and 43 f***ed that up. Neither wanted to enter the zone themselves and put 74 offside during that sequence i counted twice.

Complete "I don't want to lose, so instead we'll all lose" mentality. Should have just passed the puck to the guy who wanted it....74. Instead they chose to play pass with each other and both got burned for it. Very Chicago game 6 2010 Wellwood to Demitra, Demitra to Wellwood, Wellwood to f***ing Bolland or whoever it was.

I have a hard time believing they’ll be able to surpass that Blues team for the 2nd WC spot. They put up stats on the Blues broadcast before the game and the Blues have been lights out since around Feb 1. First in shots per game, goals per game, scoring chances etc.
The Canucks stats by contrast are abysmal. Last in shots per game, last in gpg etc.

They still need more speed and skill.

Lucky to get a much needed point but the team still cannot win in OT. If we even win 50% of our OT games we are comfortably in a playoff spot.

Team just has no offensive confidence - no one wants the puck in OT. Too soft on the puck. Stark contrast to the Blues who are just oozing confidence and on a roll. At this point - have to imagine the Blues are the favorite for WC2 (and even WC1 with the way the Wild are dropping).

Team continues to alternate great performances with poor ones and can't seem to build any consistency. That's what average teams do and unfortunately this year the Canucks are just that - average.

Feeling the very same, B-rock. I think they can, but it's very unlikely. Probably yet another season where we miss the playoffs, Brock is probably gone...which is too bad. He really is a playoff-style winger. I'd love to sign him for a hit he deserves. But he seems content to just kinda be "meh" in the regular season.

It's so tight for that last wild card spot that Tocchet has no choice but to lean on Hughes in games like this. Best case scenario the Canucks can get some leads early and keep his minutes down.

Well I had to go help a friend with work with 8 minutes left just in the 3rd. It sucked giving up two like that. We were busy and I didn't take a peek until midnight. Glad we got a point in this one but not surprised we lost in OT. Also not surprised it sounds like another typical brutal who gives 2 f***s type of giveaway play to lose it. I think the players are to blame a fair bit but also the coaching who never seem to figure out these points are important and that they should come up with a better strategy or level of giving a shit.

Oh well. Back to the dogfight.

Looking at the replay on the third goal, Myers was almost 100 percent to blame. For some mystifying reason, he left the middle of ice and gravitated towards Hughes who had the forward well covered.

And Holloway skated to the front of the net totally unmolested. I know Tocchet is trying to break up the Hughes-Hronek tandem to give the defense more balance. And for at least a couple of games pairing Hughes and Myers seemed to work. But that play was a total breakdown.

On the positive side, how can you not marvel at the play of young EP25? He just such a beautiful skater for such a big kid; and his gap-control is a thing of beauty He closes on the puck carrier just so damn fast in the neutral zone. It really is impressive.

I kinda understood the fumble. He was kinda closed in on by 2 St.Louis players, but that part I wasn't really concerned about. Its what he did after.

Instead of rushing back for a defensive formation, he just bent over, spinned his stick, starred at it, for like 3 quarter of seconds, than he skated back which was too late. Have he startd skated back earlier, wouldn't have been a 2 on 1.

Elias Pettersson is just waiting for the season to end. He rather not play the playoffs because if he has bad stats, the blame would be put on him. Can't play "bad" in the playoffs, if you're not even playing in the playoff.
That is some pure unadulterated bias you are grogging on.

what I saw was Petey giving up on the play after he fumbled the puck. Nobody is upset at Petey fumbling the puck. People are upset that he just stopped skating, in detail , he twirled his stick, starred at it, then started skating, by then those blues players already blown pass him.
He doesnt give up on anything.

The 2 on 1 happens because DeBrusk goes for a change and leaves Hughes alone under the play.

Go rewatch what happened for f***s sake...

I'm probably one of his biggest haters, but I do agree, he has been reasonably good this year...however, I have zero understanding how he gets so much rope from the coaching staff...his blunders are so mind bogglingly epic in nature, despite having less of them this season. I just don't get how anyone, especially the coaches and management, can watch some of his defensive lapses and come away thinking "I need to have him out there to protect this one goal lead, or to kill this important penalty"...I'd be doing everything I could to minimize his negative impact on the team, even if it meant giving more of Myers' minutes to Mancini. He is just too erratic to be placing so much faith in IMO.

All Petey had to do was reverse the puck down ice, off the boards. Possession is king in OT, and trying to stick handle though three players was dumb.
I mean he didn't try to stick handle through three players.
But it wasn’t just that play, he also gave up possession like two other times in OT which you just can’t have.
He gave up possession 1 other time where he gets tripped.

But other than that sure, why not.
