Post-Game Talk: GM 69 | Canucks def. Jets | 6-2 (Boeser x2, Suter x2, Hoglander, O’Connor) | Just as we all predicted!

I'm telling you, for those of us who haven't quit on the team a game like this just hits different when it doesn't involve bandwagon jumping.

Incredible performance by our entire team.

Could see glimpses of why the Jets are so good.

Adam Lowry might be the best '3rd' line center in the league. Just an incredible shutdown player and intimidating as all get-out. Amazing on the forecheck.

Nikalaj Ehlers is one of my favorite players in the league and I desperately hope we sign him. I genuinely think he could still explode and put up 20 more points in the right circumstances. Given circumstances I might be able to be talked into going up to like 9.5 if I had to. I wouldn't start there, but if the bidding got that high I wouldn't tap out before that point. He's so dynamic and creative. His micro-puck skills are also breath taking.

Our team was gusty and incredible. Hoglander had a couple of bad hockey sense plays, as he always does, but so tenacious and seemed to feel less rushed with the puck on his stick and those tend to be his best games.

Ecstatic for Boeser. Miserable world for a goal scorer who can't score. Hopefully this gets the ball rolling.

Karlsson was understated but fantastic. Just knows where to be and has good touch on the puck. Really strong hockey sense. Question was always skating, but it looks like he's fast enough now to be a useful player.

Lower lines, Sherwood, Blueger, Lekkerimaki, O'Connor, Suter etc just so tenacious, smart, desperate.

Forbert and EP3 had a couple of wobbly moments with the puck in their zone/off puck battles in the first half but fair enough. One of the best forechecking and cycling teams you will see in the league. And they seemed to figure it out in the latter half.

Hughes is so dynamic it's incredible.

Petey does so many little things in the defensive zone and in transition. I think many really underestimate how important it is that he's so strong two-way.

Really strong performance by Lankinen. Made some big 'battle' saves that we had to have.

Fantastic performance all around.

BTW, we have fixed our D entirely in the space of like 3 months. It's now a strength.

And our PK that was horrendous for like 10 years? Suddenly we're 5th in the league overall in PK percentage.

Seems like maybe Tocchet isn't the problem, eh?

The key to this game was that the forwards were making smart east west touch passes through the neutral zone. That opened up lanes for forward progress and speed into the OZ. It's something they've been trying to implement since training camp and this game was one of the few times where it 'clicked'. I suspect that it's not just a switch that's flipped and we're all of a sudden a dangerous rush offense, but it must be a big confidence boost to the players that they can break down the NZ defense against the top team in the league. Definitely something to build off of.

I'd suggest we need two impact forwards including a legit top 6 C. This is admittedly me 'waving my magic wand,' as the market is tight, but if Alvin and Rutherford can pull this off somehow I think that puts us back in the running.
I was one of the ones who basically said we had no chance last night. Wrong as usual. Great game.

As far as next year goes, Kravtsov can be had for free, as far as assets go. He is having a great year. I would seriously consider finding out whatever his salary is, and doubling it. But no less than $1.5M and no more that $2.5M. One yr show me contract.

Edit - found this on the internet.

Kravtsov signed 2 year 40 million ruble base salary contract...at today's exchange rate that is $500k USD per season.Plus substantial bonuses he’ll be making closer to $1 million.

As much as I love Suter that seems like a contract we will regret. Unfortunately we may have no choice given our centre situation.
In the next few years we will see a lot of contracts that will look like ones teams will regret. However, there is going to be a massive reset in what an average middle of the lineup type player is going to make with the cap set to basically explode. $5 mil a few years from now will the equivalent of $3.8 mil today. Look around at guys that make 3.5-4.5 right now and Suter would fit right in.

Suter I think is a valuable player. Can play on any line and any position. Good on the PK.

Guys like Karlsson and Aman are cheap depth an organization needs. guys who can fill out the 11-14 forward spots for league min.

That OEL buyout puts the Canucks about a year behind the rest of the league in cap space usage.

Give kudos where credit is due.

The Canucks played a very good game, one of their best of the year. They need that to be the norm and not the exception.

Canucks were good and The Peg wasn't, Hellebuyck looked off, not right, tired mentally and physically.

A needed win because most of the teams they are competing with won as well so that standings didn't really change or the pressured come off.

Since the Miller trade, Canucks have a positive differential in shots and expected goals. Unexpected.

The biggest issue this season was transitioning the puck up the ice and all 3 players the Canucks acquired have boosted that considerably.

Soucy was addition by subtraction. He was the anti-Hughes, where he dragged down every single pairing he was on.

The Canucks don't have enough scoring punch to really go far this year, but if Hughes and Demko are healthy they could make things interesting for a round or two. It won't be pretty but it could be effective.

Demko healthy

Suter is one of the best free agents signings this team has made in the last decade plus. He and Sherwood have both punched well about their weight.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Suter is an absolute must sign for us. Give him 6-7 years if it keeps the dollar amount lower. I don't care. We cannot let him walk.

I'd still let Brock go but I'd bring back Suter and Forbort for sure.

Hoglander-Pettersson-Chytil
DeBrusk-Ehlers-Lekkerimaki
Joshua-Suter-Garland
O'Connor-Blueger-Sherwood
(Karlsson, Aman)

Hughes-Hronek
M. Pettersson-Myers
E. Pettersson-Willander
(Forbort, Mancini)

Lankinen
Demko

Shhhh, that's still a well-kept secret outside our closest rivals. Jets fans last night were operating under the assumption that we have no D after Hughes. Most everyone still think we have weak defensive depth.

I wouldn't be surprised if many teams still assume that. Despite us having the #1 PK since February.

Hellebuyck looked off, not right, tired mentally and physically

No, he was great! He was in playoff form.

hes playing into 5x5 category right now.
Don’t think so. He’s basically matched his pace from last season, but with a few more goals.

3.5x3 would be fair value for him, unless a team hands out a crazy contract to him July 1st. I don’t see that happening though, because he doesn’t stand out when he’s playing, he just does the little things right. Would be hard to try to get a fan base excited about paying Suter 5m a season.

I feel like he's definitely earned a status above Dak.

I just don't know how much past say $4.2M I want to go.
