Oh hey, another game with no production from Pettersson or Boeser again?

Cool, glad I was out.
Yea let’s give Boeser 8 million for 5 years for not showing up. The guy is too inconsistent, he’ll have a great year then a ok one. He’s not worth 8 million. He’s a 6 million dollar player. It’s just so funny how Pettersson made a big deal about wanting to win, signs the big contract and decides to no longer show up or try.

Same thing I said about AV in 2009ish...

Good coaches can coach personalities and teams. Great coaches can adapt strategies for the players they have.

Unfortunately, the biggest difference between AV and Tocchet and the 15 year gap is *how* differently the game is played these days.

Free Agency roster moves basically set teams up to have the same blueprint as the Minnesota Wild 2012-20....good teams. But not great teams. Very little success to show when it counted.

I'd look more into trades and buying low. Very rarely do players want to test the market at the low points of their value. FA is basically built on "buy high, pray, and then pray some more".

AV couldn’t make in game changes. That was his downfall, but I don’t think Tocchett has ever shown the ability to adjust anything. Offensively we have little strategy and it shows.

I don’t think at this point Tocchett has the ability to adapt like AV did.

Because that seems to be the game plan from our dumb coach. Look at the game logs, Myers is always one of the leading shot takers on the team. That’s the game plan back to the point and funnel pucks on net.

We need a better coach… I am pretty done with Touchette he doesn’t have answers and even when something works he goes away from it. He doesn’t adjust, and can’t coach offense. He does a great job t job doing defensive hockey, but there is more to the game.

Honestly need to fire Touchette fast before he ruins players like Lekkermaki. Not really a defensive team either when you let in 6 goals. We get boring defensive hockey and still get wrecked by Seattle a non playoff team.

We have no offensive players now to play offensively. We traded our best forward

I think the offensive players will end up being fine. Like they were in Arizona/utah

I actually think Boeser will bounce back easily away from Tocchett

It's shocking that this management group inherited Bo Horvat, JT Miller, Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes, Demko all at their prime and still young and worth a ransom, to now be reduced to this.

It’s insane, TBH. We went from having one of the best center depths in the NHL to one of the worst

Honestly, would not be surprised if we lose Hughes because of how badly constructed the Canucks are. We can’t play defence, we can’t score and we’re soft af.

If the Canucks put Pettersson on waivers right now...literally for free...who would take him?

He is either pathetically weak or pathetically entitled. Those are really the only options now...

The Canucks really need to sit him and then EMPHATICALLY state that he has requested X # of days as a starter point for his recovery. That or they need to come out and say that Pettersson has declared himself %100 fit for duty

You can thank Benning for the giant mess that so came with it.

Oh he would get taken for sure! He sucks right now but other teams would take the beat that he can turn it around in a new environment and for free it’s easy call for many teams

Benning wasn’t great but enough time has passed that the current mess is on the new group.

yes and no. Benning left a f*** ton of bad contracts and absolutely nothing in terms of assets. Yeah he left Demko, Bo, Petey, Hughes, Miller and Brock but that was pretty much it oh and a bunch of cap anchors. Hell we had f***ing Poolman on our cap until he was finally traded this year.
I’ve said over and over again on this, it would take years to overcome the shit Benning left behind because it was so f***ing bad.

The mess has been created by our young 1C having a historically bad fall off in their playing ability right in the middle of their statistical prime and our other 1C having conflict with this player to a level that required a trade. I've been critical of certain moves from this management group, but I struggle to put the majority of the blame for this mess on them.

Our older 1C had a problem with more than just Petey, that’s why he is gone. As I said before the trade Miller had to go period. Petey, was an unknown.

In hindsight for me at least we should have traded JT for the same package we did this year only a few years ago, and kept Bo. Sigh, but that’s hindsight.

Agreed, I don't know by how much though.

AV was a pretty fast thinker. I think we're due for an AV redemption tour a la John Gibbons with the 2015-16 Blue Jays.

Simply because I think players are yearning for an AV-style coach, but the way Kes talks about it, it'll shorten your career. But Trevor Linden once told Kes "he'll be the best coach you've worked for" (I haven't used MLA-style writing in a fortnight, but here's my quotation citation). I think he's right.

I think AV was an excellent coach, but I don't think he had the ability to teach players how to reign it in either. It was obvious in the 2011 SCF, when Kes and Burr and Juice, our emotional leaders basically went off-script and got into street fights with multiple B's because they rightfully took shots at the Twins every chance they got.

That's 2011 in a nutshell, the B's drug us down to their level, and simply beat us on experience when we should have been worried about just playing our game, instead of Hamhuis' reckless abandon on hipchecks and getting caught up in emotions.

I saw that team in the course of 1 week, go from unbothered by opponents, to critically affected by everything they did. We want to talk about lost opportunities, I think back to that time in my life often, and I THINK the moment I knew we were cooked is when Luongo spouted off post-game 5. They were in our heads all series, and only because we allowed them to be. And in the end, the two biggest difference makers all series long, Bergeron and Marchand. Got the goals in the deciding game. That was the worst part, one of them I revered as the gold standard of hockey...the other I wrote off as some chump goon kid but I think I got that one DEAD wrong. I think the kid was a smarter hockey player than even I gave him credit for and at every opportunity he proved me wrong and even earned my respect.

Lawd I was born a rambling man. I make zero apologies for that.

I don't disagree with you, and that's also on the player not management as well. A complete lack of professionalism from professional athletes and an unexplainable fall off in the playing ability of an elite 1C has been what has caused this mess. Right now, I don't hold much ill will towards management for this messed up situation.

Now if they go and re-sign Boeser to a long-term contract this week I'll have to re-evaluate my opinion.

As it is often said, the truth usually lies somewhere in the middle.

Maybe last year we weren't as good as we really were (PDO kings). This year nothing is going right.

We aren't as bad as we seem to be lately but we need to bust this funk.

If I'm the GM I "retool on the fly". Sounds cliche but you can't rebuild with this roster and you can't go all in either. It's time we recouped some value for our UFAs and try and make a splash at the draft.

It won't be easy but in some universe the Canucks come out stronger than ever before.

I believe.

Flames lost to Panthers/Lightning. Canucks lost to Ducks/Kraken.

Is it fair to say missed opportunity?

They turned Miller and Horvat into Hronek and Marcus Pettersson.

Doesnt look good on paper or on the ice.
