Say what you want about the Hughes vs Makar debate, but there's no chance in hell that any defenceman on the Canucks would play 3 minutes more than Hughes.

wtf Toews played 32min? And makar 30? For a regular season game?

Manson got hurt so they were down a RD which is why Toews played so much.

You mean the coach that sent Carson Soucy out on a 5on3 powerplay????

No Hughes, Myers in the box, Hronek had a long PP shift.

The options were Soucy, Forbort, and Pettersson. Pettersson is probably a better option theoretically but has had zero reps with this PP.

You take out Forbort instead.

Forbort is their best PK defender, and is playing really well right now. He can't come out of the lineup, really. And I really want to see EP2 play.

Makar played 30 as well so it looks like they just went f*** it.

Based on today only, they should take out Forbort and keep the Pettersson-Soucy pair in tact.

Hughes Hronek
Pettersson Myers
Pettersson Soucy

That’s a mobile d group over there
Forbort is like a big PKer for us. I wonder when they will try DPetey on the PK

Boeser had a few flubs but this was one of his best games since injury
Chytil's pace got him moving his feet again which got him more chances (night and day compared to the final games with Miller).

But he's not making the case for an extension any easier, especially when we just watched how speed can change the entire complexity of the team.

Soucy played less than 14 mins, he is coming out over Forbort and it's the right call. I am actually at the point where I would not mind resigning him for cheap depth next year.
Soucy is a better player than Forbort when he's on his game and seems to be getting his confidence back.

Forbort has been solid though, I just simply like the Petey-Soucy pairing.

Boeser- yeah screwed up a lot of plays, but thought he had a very Boeser like game, don't drive play, barely notice him then score a goal that a lot of other players can't, Blackwood was already sliding across and covered a lot of net somehow Boeser just finesses the puck in. He's never been good at distributing the puck on the PP, its not a surprise all coaches eventually put him in front of the net or bumper.

MP3- I lost track how many times he used his stick to poke the puck away from an Avs player - at least a few times on Mackinnon. Like I said, he's the swedish Willie Mitchell, skinnier and more agile. He almost made Myers error free.

DPetey - he's been a revelation. I can't even remember a rookie dman that looked this comfortable this young league wide with this kind of physicality. I expected him to have some physical traits, but his puck moving looks more than ok, and he's even getting good looks to shoot. He's basically trending like a 1st round pick.

Demko- when you see Demko play like this then you get reminded how dominant he looked in the bubble.

Thought the lines worked much much better when they switched Garland with Boeser.

Soucy- thought for a guy who was rumoured to be traded, showed a lot of character/heart to step in for DPetey, who is the one taking his job. I feel he's a decent 5, was just asked too much of him to be in the top 4.

The forward that we need to find is someone who can play the half boards on the pp, I dont' think we have anyone that can play that role right now.

Is sad seeing EP40 struggling to this level, I will still give him some time. I feel his energy has been higher, but clearly lacks confidence right now and deferring too much.

Great win but OG Petey is still in the same slump, I thought this was one of this weakest games of the year

Needs to get it going because the team is otherwise really starved for scoring

hes lost all his speed. his rookie year he was able to blow past guys with ease.
I’m no skating coach, but his technique has always been awkward. I still remember the changes Horvat made. Probably too late now for that kind of change but he at least needs to get back to where he was. He’s running out of time - quickly.

The ghost of miller still haunts him at night.

Ditto. Although if you roll with the following:

Hughes-Hronek
Pettersson-Myers
Pettersson-Soucy

You still have 4 very good penalty killers. The problem becomes if any of them take a penalty.

I had the same thought. Soucy settings back to left side on the o
Pk.
