Same old Canucks.
Have no chance of making the playoffs but go balls to the wall to eke out every point they can and end up screwing their draft possibilities. (although they likely draft the wrong guy even if they improved their draft position anyways)
Play a needed trade option in Schenn even though he can't sit down.
As in the past, the coach (often fighting for his job) is allowed to forget about anything but the next game and totally disregard any consideration of the club's future . Fact is any wins now have zero value and only hurt the future,
In the end, most fans (or at least any with half a brain), spent the last minutes of these games chewing off their finger nails hoping the team doesn't somehow tie or win. Luckily they somehow didn't tie this one up.
There were some good efforts including:
Hughes - very strong offensive effort. Lot of elite level plays in this game. Now over a point a game.
Bear - very strong over the last part of the game.
Garland - back to being his buzz saw best. Teams not picking up him up for the playoffs (given the price is right) are making a mistake. Playing better under Tocchet. Very good in one on one board battles.
Podkolzin - again showed good wheels. Got in quickly on the forecheck and came back well. High energy and effective game. Nice he finally scored.
Poor
OEL - needs to play with more intensity when other team have good scoring chances. Just that bit behind that allows players to get open for a shot or tip. Needs to take players out of the play and keep them out of the play.
Myers - jumping from man to man and ending up not covering anyone. Needs to do his job an let others do theirs. Just creates a havoc when he is switching off so much. Should be taking his man and eliminate him from the play and then then keep him out of the play. Too often the player he was originally checking ends up scoring the goal
Martin - slip, sliding all over the place and not angling properly on outside shots. Fought the puck, again, all game.
Others
Miller - better puck movement and went to the body well. Good on PK and in the circle. Still some defensive issues however.
Stillman - in spite of the act he was on for some goals against, Stillman is playing better. Much more up in the play and taking players harder around the net (even if not always successfully). Better puck movement through the neutral zone and at both blue lines. Maybe not as bad as he first appeared. Believe he got concussed in a fight (with Jeannot) just after coming here and that might explain why he was so awful.
Beauvillier - got speed and close to putting away chances in this game. Tends, however, to overpass. Success with Pettersson is iffy at this point. Probably better than Boeser.
