once you had a meter about how a team will perform or how much they will suck. that was a damn good meter. is it possible to recycle it?

it's just one of those "who cares, **** it" games. it was a pattern under sutter as well. sometimes they don' show up, and tonight they did not.

Ah yes, the superstition-o-meter. Unfortunately i was putting more effort into that than I was into the games. I'll see if I can resurrect it at some point but yeah, once i saw the save percentages coming into this game, the meter would have predicted this flawlessly.

Retain salary for one, and who cares if they get less value. It's not like the players they bring in will do any worse and if they do that only helps getting a higher pick.

And not every player on the team is overpaid.

It's rare to see salary retained for multiple seasons. Especially for multiple players over multiple seasons. If they retained only on Carter, what does that do? Is that going to save the roster? Is that going to wake them up? I doubt it. They're not going to do it with Carter, Muzzin, Toffoli, Martinez, and whoever else. I don't see the point in retaining on one guy just to get rid of him. There's still a roster full of older players making a bunch of money.

It's really a process that started after losing to SJ in 2016. They paid Doughty his Cup money. Kovalchuk, at least that's a signing to try to be competitive. He's not an asset, and what else would they have used that $6m for? I kind of like what the last 3 years have been in the big picture. The Lucic deal was the last gasp, where a window was possibly open, and then it came crashing down. Since then, I think both Lombardi and Blake have been realistic. The black hole, there was pretty much no avoiding it with Lombardi's last risk.

The Kings aren't doing anything. Barely paying attention to the game anymore.

He's looked mediocre today but he's looked like himself the rest of the season. They'll get their points. Whether Stevens gets fired or not seemingly will impact their use of Kovy on the PP, but Kopitar and Kovy together will be better than anyone you could replace them with. That line has been the only one with a pulse.

We thought the same thing with Gaborik and Kopitar. Didn't really work as much as we thought after the 2014 playoffs. Then Kopitar had 90+ points with a winger that scored 9 goals. Kopitar has been sort of like Crosby in that way. It's been difficult to find him the right winger. Williams worked. Gaborik was great in 2014, but he scored almost all his goals from 5 feet in front of the net. You almost can't put the talented guy with Kopitar on a consistent basis.

5 goals on 17 shots for Ottawa.

The Leafs might hit double digits in goals on Monday.

Yeah, that's going to 8-1, or the Kings will win. It's not going to be a 3-2 Leafs win or anything like that. Shaping up to be a bad one, like 55 shots against bad, but I guess that's why they play the games.

Welp, at least they're out shooting their opponent and not giving up 40 SOGs... so there's that.
