this forum after the game will explode, kaboom.

I’ll be watching the Dodgers game, hoping they don’t continue to choke miserably like the Sharks tend to do in post season play.

The little bit of optimism I had for this team went out the window as soon as we saw the stupidity of John Stevens and his decision making. Plus it’s mostly the same group of players that hasn’t won a playoff series in five years.

Oh hey, Stone Hands actually scored!

Disagree. Loaded, meaning more than a few players? Having some talented players , isn't loaded with talent. This team has lacked a pulse for over 4 years now. Leadership missing, no identity and definitely no swagger.
There is no intensity, no hustle, nothing. Bad decisions, lack of confidence. The power play is embarrassing. Coaching is partially to blame, but the players at some point, have to man up, and look in the mirror. Way too many easy mistakes, and too often.
The youth is fine , for ,most young players, they hit their stride past the 200 game mark. And they have drafted some good kids in the last couple drafts and have some good stock in the farm. But (other than DD) an aging core who appear to have no desire.
I'm wondering what wheels, if any, the front office has in motion and how long they wait.

They have a lot of talent. What you said afterwards is the truth, they have no identity.

You conflated it.

Lots, meaning many plural? Where? Kopi, Quick and DD are highly talented players, elite. After that? Carter is a good winger but not the same and Kovy is over 35 . Brown is a good winger, but his success is tied to playing with Kopitar, and he's not young anymore.
Rising talent, yes, JAD , Vilardi , Iafallo? possibly, but they haven't established that.
Muzzin and AMart are good d, but alot of their success is tied to Quick and the defensive structure they play within. Y9ou really think if you put Muzzin in Bufallo or Ottawa he'd look the same?
Allowing (pre today) 38 Shots allowed, on average this year, isn't good.
Lots of talent? No, I can't see that now, but over the next few years as those prospects turn into players, yes, then they will.

So your idea of talent is only when it's borderline elite ? By that measuring stick no team in the NHL is talented.

With what? The contracts are too big. There's nobody to trade for anything. Cap space is too important. If Carter was a UFA, he could easily be dealt, but he's not. If he was 27 again, you could deal him. He's not bringing back the next top young player for the team though. Every other GM knows the Kings have 1 playoff win since 2014. They know Blake is trading from a position of weakness.

Retain salary for one, and who cares if they get less value. It's not like the players they bring in will do any worse and if they do that only helps getting a higher pick.

And not every player on the team is overpaid.

The only semi-valuable expiring contracts coming up are Toffoli and Muzzin. Along with Clifford, Lewis, and Forbort. Maybe LaDue. But that's all next year. I don't think there's anything in motion. There's no trade that's going to save the team.

I think Blake will do what Blake has done. Fringe trades, young free agents, keep the picks, and ride out the Cup contracts. Cap space, current and future, is simply too important for every team. Blake has no flexibility to work with in the guys we want him to trade. Not this year at least. They weren't getting a franchise altering trade with Doughty either. He had to be traded years ago as well, while he still had a couple years with a $7m hit.

How has Kopitar looked? Not like his 90pt self last season? And is Kovy not being given an opportunity? I would have thought for sure Kovy + Kopitar would do extremely well together this year...

I have both for fantasy but might have to drop kovy

He's looked mediocre today but he's looked like himself the rest of the season. They'll get their points. Whether Stevens gets fired or not seemingly will impact their use of Kovy on the PP, but Kopitar and Kovy together will be better than anyone you could replace them with. That line has been the only one with a pulse.

Through end of 2nd period today, for season. All situations, on-ice:

Drew Doughty: 5 gf, 0 against

Rest of Kings D-core: 5 GF, 11 against.

once you had a meter about how a team will perform or how much they will suck. that was a damn good meter. is it possible to recycle it?

it's just one of those "who cares, f*** it" games. it was a pattern under sutter as well. sometimes they don't show up, and tonight they did not.
