I know people will look far and beyond for complex explanations as to why the team is where they are now.

I'll make it short.

Bad trades
And No Voynov.

We never recovered yet.

Richard's sucked ass, and Stoll was awful around the time he left. Mitchell was very good but he left too. Always injured as well, Scuderi was very solid but he was an echler at his last stint.

Players fell off the map.

Particularly, our defense. I guarantee you that if we had a solid RR or someone else, as well as Voynov. We'd be sitting pretty.

Let's not make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Awful trades by DL, and no Voynov.

That's what blew major holes in our ship. Not leadership bull****.

Poor drafting is a major reason why there is no cavalry coming right now. The Sekera/Lucic trades play into that, but they haven't been fortunate to hit home runs with later picks like they were doing in the past. It's cool to talk about how they are still drafting well because a certain number of "NHL" players are still coming out of each draft, but its 4th liners and bottom-pair defenseman. Amadio looks decent but its not enough at this point in his development.

It's not just "no Voynov" though. I've seen less talented teams--Kings teams included--play better than this. Same goes for last season. That plays into desire and leadership.

That was my biggest point of contention with last night's game I would say the fact that Clifford didn't do anything to try and get a momentum change or just to even send a message. It just makes me think that hes useless on this roster.

He did it against the Rangers. Had a big hit. Kempe fought against the Rangers. They actually found some emotion, after being down 2-0 again, against the Rangers. Then threw all that away in a game against a division team.

It's unfortunate that the Kings playing the way most of us expected before the season started is bringing people around to the realization that Carter should be traded. Which is something Herby, Kings17 and myself have been saying for a few years now.

It's nice to say it, and everyone here has had the discussion to no end, but it's not realistic. Name the teams that do it. In theory, getting rid of a guy a year too early is always the way to go. This entire team should've been traded at the 2014 draft, but teams don't trade key players like that. It's at least very rare when they do. Teams usually hold onto any possible hope of competitiveness, until there's no other option but to blow everything up. And no, it's not just Robitaille that sells fans a bill of goods. All organizations do it, and none of them can for sure deliver on any promise they make, unless they strike gold for X amount of time, and even then, it depends on the sport.

16-9-2 against non-Pacific teams without Carter. That's 103 points in 82 games. That's good enough for a playoff spot. I'd like to know what gets into this team when they play the division. 4-9-2 without Carter. That's a 55 point team. 1-4-1 at home w/o JC. How are they only half as good against the Pacific? If they were terrible against the Central, ok. They have a respectable record there though.
The Kings are the oldest and slowest team in their division. How do you expect them to win games if they can't match their division opponents speed? Grinding out the other teams with being big and having a heavy forecheck, does't work anymore. The Kings offensive attack develops too slow. When in the offensive zone, there is no creativity and quick passing. They basically execute a 4th line type dump and chase cycle game for all 4 lines! The Kings need to find a coach that can implement more of a offensive scheme. Having the #1 defense does no good in winning games, if you can't score goals. Oh, how could I forget the mostly attrocious PP. All the Kings do is cycle/grind it a long the boards where most of their shots come from the point with a screen/tip. They need to somewhat scrap that and execute quick tape to tape passes, trying to generate some shots in the slot and from the dots. This all goes back to being creative on offense. The Kings scoring attack is very basic and easy for opponents to defend, especially if you are a faster team.

I dunno man, for a long time you advocated for another top six forward as well; if you don't think adding a 60-point, fantastic skating and defensive center to ANY lineup is a HUGE boost, I don't know what to tell you. Doubly so for a bubble team with little center depth, we saw last year what missing Kopitar can do, we're seeing now what missing Carter can do. Team has issues, not trying to make excuses, but that's a significant absence for ANY team.

I agree, and my bigger problem with the losses in-division is the lack of emotion. How can Kempe and Lewis get so mad at the Rangers, but we're perfectly content getting run over by the Canucks? Ducks games nonwithstanding I suppose.

I said on paper this team should be doing better.I also said adding Carter alone isn't going to change this teams chances of being a cup contender.Obviously adding a top 4 defensemen was a must for several years since VV absent.A top 6 fwd is also needed to be added as I've always said needed also but if the team could add at lease a top 4 defensemen, the team could possibly be a cup contender. But since that time this team has fallen off the cliff in play and is out of a playoff spot and still nose diving. At this point if the Kings don't make a change either at coach or GM or roster or leadership, cause this team is a mess evidently at all positions, this season is going to be a lost.

Still doesn't explain 16-9-2 without Carter. I don't imagine the Kings are that much younger or faster than non-Pacific teams. If they were bad in the other 27 games, that's one thing, but they're not. Not even during this last 5 or 6 weeks. They haven't been good, not playoff caliber, but not as bad as in the division games.

Actually San Jose is the oldest I believe now in the division barley by actual age.I saw the James Mirtle piece dated on January 12th 2018 and he was using players that had to have skated in a minimum of 100 minutes at 5-on-5 as of Thursday afternoon not actual the overall age of the roster.Jokinen was waved and Frantenburg sent down to the Ahl since this publication I believe as well.Kings have since brought up Ladue and Amadio.

I don't know how many games you watched, but SJ looked slowed against the Kings and so has other teams in the league in many games this season.Their speed is fine, it's the defense and their and consistency to score or defend that's killing this team for one.The Kings for whatever reason we're leading in the standings and had the second best record for a few months then dropped. That isn't about being old or being slow,it's about playing a full 60 minute game every night and playing for each other.Defending each other on the ice is a issue at this point as well.It starts with this teams lack of leadership. The leadership sucks and Doughty has no business wearing a A.Carters Leadership and Brown as a Captain is hurting this team at this point in the season.

John Stevens on the game plan : "Just exactly what I just said. If you asked the guys the game plan, they can tell you what the game plan is. But it’s a conscious decision to follow the game plan and play the game the right way. We had a total refusal to play the game the right way tonight, and we got what we deserved".

I Think this roster is done, they are not going to respect any coach you put in. May be time to blow up the roster.

All this talk about Style....The KINGS HAVE NONE. They don't grind anyone into dust anymore, stop with that nonsense narrative. Watch games from 2012-2014 those Kings teams punished people. This team doesn't even come close to doing any of that.

This team is stuck in a identity crisis and it shows on the ice.

That's an eternity in sports. Eventually you'll be right as performance slows down on people. That's like the "trade Quick before his body breaks down" line of thought, eventually you'll be right, and I'm not sure you get to say "I told you so" in those situations.

Our speed isn't our problem with in-division games. The Pacific is very likely the slowest division in the league. You're repeating last year's memes about the Kings.

Absolutely correct RE: style. They aren't "heavy", they aren't tight defensively and they aren't a high-wire act on offense.

If I had to apply a style, it would probably be "soft". The next 50/50 puck they win along the boards might be the first one of 2018.

100% Correct.
