Vincent Desharnais doesnt even use his hands to fight, never mind play hockey. Absolutely nothing there with this player
Honestly this is my biggest concern. If this continues, then we collective relinquished our rights to bitch about Hughes wanting to leave for NJD.
Or...EDM.
Bruce Boudreau was fired Jan 22nd 2023.
gerard galllant. but NO this team should not be allowed to use the get out of jail coaching card again. 4 coaches in 5 years? hell NO. its the core. just let tocheet go this offseason where more choices will be more in the summer. trade everyone except hughes hronek sherwood garlandI know this teams personnel is not great this year but a lot of this falls on coaching. You can’t be last in the league for shots per game and not be coached that way. This team is going nowhere with Tocchet behind the bench. The problem is who is the alternative?
id take bruce boudreau everyday over tocchett hockey. scoring more goals is fun than playing low even 1-0 dump and chase. At least those games were somewhat entertaining. This current brand of Canucks’ hockey is unwatchable.
He missed games with a headshot earlier this year and hasn't been the same since. It sucks as it's a possibility that he may not even get his game back. The team has a massive need for a good defenseman, and resigning him shouldn't happen. At the very least we need speed on the wings. He's gotta be traded ASAP instead of letting him walk.Someone already said it - here or on twitter, I can't remember - and I thought it was a good point: One of the many ways you can tell something is really wrong beyond the hockey side of things is Boeser stinking it up in a contract year. You don't often see players do this. This is his livelihood. What happened that Boeser can't give it his all this season for a big contract?
Ya well high standards have since been set and culture has changed though.
oilers will destroy this team saturday. maybe miller gets scratcheed...? team loses again. 5-2 mcdavid and draistial combine for 7 pts.
dont forget they have ice and dice event on sunday evening too...
a jersey will be thrown on saturday if they lose guaranteed.I predict jeers and jerseys on ice.
Yes, jerseyS, plural.
a jersey will be thrown on saturday if they lose guaranteed.
mcdavid puts up 2 goals in the first and the rest will be completed by the end of the 2nd period. boobirds will commence fans will leave.By the end of 1st period we'll likely be down by at least 4 goals.
dont forget they have ice and dice event on sunday evening too...
Tocchet won Jack Adams, and while he's far from perfect, he was also dealt a shit hand. He'll likely survive the season.
Our front office members are usually quite aggressive when it comes to correcting mistakes. Now, they've been sitting on their asses doing nothing.
Boeser benefits from his teammates' playmaking and that hasn't been there but Boeser had 6 goals 11 points in 11 games prior to suffering a concussion. Garland had his worst season as a Canuck when he suffered a concussion early on. Concussion injuries can have a serious impact on one's game.Someone already said it - here or on twitter, I can't remember - and I thought it was a good point: One of the many ways you can tell something is really wrong beyond the hockey side of things is Boeser stinking it up in a contract year. That is a good point but the additions aside from DeBrusk are more in supportive roles (goalies don't matter as much). The bigger problem is having Soucy and Myers as the 2nd pairing with an ineffective 3rd pairing.A caller on the post-game show made a valid point.....last off-season the Canucks brought in nine UFA's, if you count Brannstrom who arrived via the waiver wire.
That's far too much roster turnover for a team that fancies itself a contender. Sure the underperforming top players are one of the biggest reasons for their plight right now.
But when you have to go out and sign that many UFA's, it means you're simply not drafting and developing players who can come in on ELC's and legitimately challenge for a spot in the lineup.
Actually aside from Desharnais and to a lesser extent Heinan, these guys are veterans with fairly consistent play the past 2-3 years. Forbort was in decline before we acquired him.Let's be brutally honest here. Guys like Di Giuseppe, Heinen, Suter, Bluger, Desharnais, Forbort, Soucy, and even Lankinen and Joshua are 'journeyman players' . Some of them are capable of having one big year, but their careers have been also marked by healthy scratches, being exposed on waivers and even sent to the minors. These are the kind of late-20's guys that an expansion team would draft in their first season.
I'm not sure why we would want older guys but the UFA additions are in the 27-29 year old age range with Forbort being older. That's pretty typical and ideal for UFAs.The Canucks have a serious 'age-gap' problem. They have mid-20's players like Hughes, Boeser, Pettersson, and Hronek; and guys pushing 32 like J.T. Miller who are supposed to be carrying the team. But they've got nothing on either side of them--older and younger.
Just not a lineup built to be a legitimate contender.
