So, just barely under 500 then? All while playing “like ****” and missing top players. It’s almost like there’s 50% of the season to go, too.

Not really barely under .500, no. 16 points against 9 points. 1-4-5 in regulation, for 7 points, and opposing teams are 4-1-5, for 13 points. Anaheim came in with half their roster out and got to a SO.

There is almost half the season to go, that's true. They come out of this bye week with games at home against the Ducks and Sharks. Perfect time to turn things around against western teams at home. Last time they came out of an extended break though, they lost at home to Vegas in OT, with a poor 2nd period. They've also scored 2 real goals at home against the Ducks and Sharks this year. However, the future is indeed unwritten.

It was the wrong move to make. Rinne is so out of position when Doughty gets the puck all he has to do is continue towards the net and pick the top corner... its a sure goal. Instead he spins right into him and gets nothing. It was the worst thing he could've done.View attachment 91627

I think Doughty was off balance and thought he was so close to Rinne that he tried to tuck it under him. He kind of had to reach behind to retrieve the puck, hence why he had to spin around to gain control.

Yeah Ducks lost a crap load of their starts and were still winning enough games to try to hang around.Kings only top player they were missing has been Carter and having issues being consistent.Muzzin was out today not all season.Clifford isn't a top player either.Really no excuses for this team to be so inconsistent.

Again, it depends on what your expectations were.

Coming into the season, it seemed most here had the Kings pegged as a blackhole or bubble team at best. Yet here there are at 2nd in the division without really making any moves and despite injuries. They're not an excuse, but it's foolish to ignore them as a factor altogether.

I'd say considering we've had to promote a bunch of youth, we're actually overachieving, and that partially helps explain the inconsistencies. I'm actually kind of happy that it's pretty clear to see where our weakness lies at this point. There's very little "what does this team need?"

29 games left against the West, 11 games left against the East.

9-8-4 against the West, for 22 points.
Western teams are 12-6-3 against the Kings, for 27 points.

15-5-1 against the East, 31 points.
Eastern teams are 6-11-4 against the Kings, for 16 points.

I was surprised to see Quick in net tonight after the Flames game.Maybe Kuemper should start to shake things up.This team needs a roster upgrade and a wake up call.

Exactly, everyone knows Quick does very poorly against the Preds. Just start someone else and give the team a chance.

Kings need to get rid of useless players like Clifford and AA. So useless.

How dare they win games... probably shouldn’t trust them when they do that.

Yeah we shouldn't, not when they follow it up with a six game losing streak. This is a streaky team, and it has some obvious flaws.

Streaky teams do not usually win cups.

Until they fill at lease the top 4 defensemen hole and get Carter back into the line up,we then can see really how close this team is or where Kings need more upgrades at.

I dunno, Penguins have lost 5 in a row each of the last couple of years, 2015 Hawks lost 3 in a row several times and were fully 6-7 in January, the 2014 Kings--most comparable team obviously--lost 5 in a row and 4 in a row two more times. Also had a stretch losing 8 of 9. I don't think that's an exact science and judging by those teams they had "obvious flaws" that the GM set out to fix.

Right, but my point is we've gone from "how far is this team?" to "how close is this team?" You say there is no excuse for this team to be so inconsistent, I say there's a dramatic shift in expectations/perception of this team that's causing that view. Have to account for that.

This goes back to my point about Robitaille and Blake really having no choice but to go for it this season based on how they sold themselves to AEG. The unexpected performance in the standings exacerbates the situation. Based on what we have seen against top teams in the West and the Pacific Division who play a heavier game, the Kings are not as close as the standings today would suggest.

I understand what your saying.Looking at the roster personnel is a good indication of the potential of this team. When you compare it to the two cup teams,it really needs a lil more experience and at lease one more talented top 4 defensemen at the very lease. Then roll the dice in the playoffs .If more patching and fixing of the roster needs to be done afterwards then they can do it in the off season.

Quick has looked dreadful the last 2 games. He should have stopped a couple of those goals. Several softies.

What was he doing with Hartnell’s goal for instance.

Playing the odds and covering the short side. It was the blown coverage by Cliffy and a lucky bounce off a Kings skate that goes right to him in front of the net.

So, bottom 6 continues to deep 6 us on the ice. More specifically, that bottom line. -2 in about 7 minutes work, at least they’re efficient.

To me it looked like he wanted to bounce the puck away with his stick and hardly touched it.

The look on his face afterwards told enough, softie.

I do think he is one of the best though.
