Sean Avery would've thrived in this new NHL. Rats galore. But part of it is because older guys like Phaneuf have gone soft. You're gonna let Pilut punk you like that and skate away. In years past guys like Iginla or Phaneuf would've kept them honest. This is the new way of playing. Fake glove drops, lots of stick work. Cant say it's super exciting but people think the caveman aspect of the game is gone and it's all skill and flash, but unfortunately that leads to rats who act tough and play super dirty because theres no one to call them on their shit.

What?!? He made several saves off his shoulders.

And he's taller than Quick. (he looks taller at least) If Quick were playing, the game would have never made it to OT

Cal has not even given up a weak goal yet...he stopped Eichel 7 other times and that last one he shot over Cal's shoulder was wicked and would have scored
on all goalies...except maybe Markstrom, who is 6'6" or that Adin Hill, who is 6'6". Those few by Jarnkrok were the same, wicked top shelf ones.
Conversely, Quick has given up about 6-7 bad ones this year. Cal doesn't have any real weaknesses.

Chris Kontos didnt have any weaknesses at one time too. Peterson is good and has potential. I'm not ready to anoint him the guy yet. And even if we do Quick would be a damn good mentor to have for him.

I think it's worth the risk, if the Kings get a good return on Quick in a trade.

but when they do drop the gloves, the linesmen dive in after the first punch..

there's no honesty left, period

I tend to agree with you. Quick's best years are behind him, and he's starting to get injured on schedule.

I'd be worried they can't get a good return for him though. The Flyers are always looking for a goalie. trade Quick for Simmonds + ___?_____

With Campbell and Petersen, the Kings can figure out the goalie position. The last time we were in this position was LaBarbera goes and Quick became the #1. This is an easier choice than that I think. What have we got to lose? LOL

Simmonds is a UFA, I don't see the Kings going there. They will be looking for picks/prospects, which Philadelphia has many. Philly GM wants to make a splash, and they are never going to improve without a solid netminder. Still, it's hard to see them giving up a top prospect like Frost, but that's where I would start.

At this point its not even about getting a good return for Quick. It's simply getting rid of his cap hit. I think a team vying to go to the next level, but needs a solid playoff goalie in net can really benefit from Quick. I think he still has it in him as evidenced as early as last year. From the Kings prospective, they have no use for Quick. Kings won't be competitive again for 2-3 years. Quick won't last that long. Plus, I am comfortable with a combination of Campbell/Peterson. They are both solid and young. If they don't work out, we will have to keep looking for a young replacement. Quick is not our goalie of the future.

Getting Simmonds would be a mistake. He may help this team move from being bottom of the standings to a couple of notches above the bottom. Plus, we have no use for him after this season because of his age and the salary he will demand.

That said, if there is a plan to flip Simmonds at the trade deadline, I would do that deal.

True but a very expensive mentor, hence if the opportunity presents itself, Quick should get traded.

Quicks trade value had plummeted with the injuries this season. But there is time for him to recover before the trade deadline. You just hope he shows that he can be a starter and blame the stats on the D in front of him.

If you can get to that point by the trade deadline, then there will be a market for him. Let’s see if Blake has the stones to even try.
