He looks like a guy who had something significant happen that completely effed him mentally. Just sucked the mojo right out of him. Like I said before, he doesn't impose himself on the game, he just goes with the flow of it.
Not sure if anything significant but looks like his confidence is gone, he actually started the 1st really well but then it waned. I think once he starts scoring the mojo will be back, that’s the hope.

- Hughes obviously made a great play on the tying goal but looked a bit off to me overall. Also wish he'd use Hronek a bit more instead of forcing everything himself. Obviously the last guy I'm concerned about, though.

- The entire team seemed to stop trying after the 1st but still not good enough from Silovs. Would be shocked if Lankinen doesn't get the next one.

- Miller showed up physically and on the score sheet but did make several bozo plays. Bad pass on the Mantha SHG goal and another one with the empty net that Hughes bailed him out on. But like with Hughes, also not someone I'm concerned about.

- As for someone who I am concerned about... Pettersson. Freshly signed 12M contract and he's not even good enough to start 3on3 OT, that's bonkers. Honestly if you were to describe his game to another Canucks fan without saying his name they probably would think you're talking about Suter. If he didn't finish last season the way he did I wouldn't think anything of it but it's just more of the same. At his salary he should be a factor almost every shift, full stop.

- Willing to give Desharnais more time with the coaching staff to see if he can sort his game out, but Forbort cannot skate and therefore may not be playable 5on5 whatsoever.

- Overall, it's game 1, shit happens. Need to see a lot more to make any concrete judgments.
For everyone shitting on Forbort Myers and Soucy where no better.

Lucky to get a point. Out-played for the most part and couldn't get anything like a key save.

Good

Boeser - was skating better than at almost any point in the past. Should have moved the puck over to Hronek in OT but was getting on the end of plays and causing turnovers in the Calgary end.

Miller - some sloppy passing and not totally up to speed but without him we've got nothing going on in this game.

Blueger - not always successful but had to carry his line and was good on the PK.

Bad

Forbet - Deharnais - couldn't, as predicted, move the puck. Both are so much worse than Zadorov. Lumber around their end chasing the play. Team must get a puck mover on the botton pairing (maybe Friedman - maybe McWard). You can get no overall continuity in your play with this pairing and team begins to breakdown. Just can't run good shifts consistently. They're out and we lose any forward momentum and end up spending most of the time trying to fight our way out of our end.

Aman - couldn't get the puck out of his end and zero offensively. Big cause in why his line got tied up in their end so much. Bad on the PK.

Ugly

Heinen - if they can get someone to play with MIller and Boeser could be a strong line. Outside of last year in Boston player has always been fringe. Did nothing in this game and was often behind the play. Missed some good set ups. Hated how he laughed about it. Don't want to see Bains in the line up but would prefer him over this player.

Pettersson - maybe needs to see a new 'shrink'. Looks exactly like he did most of last season. Looked very weak and confused so much of the night. Way too much game time.

Silovs - exposed badly up high again. Word is out on Silovs and team is likely cooked unless they get some good work out of Lankinen or Demko returns

Raty - can't skate well enough. Nuff said. Didn't think absence of Suter would be that profound.

Others

Hughes - a game well below the standard he has set. Defense, in general, was poor.

Hronek - poor on the OT winner

Hoglander - good first but faded after that.

Strong - made some good plays but out of sync with Pettersson. You like Strong on many shifts but you wonder if he contributed to the lack of cohesion in the Canuck play.

Team must do something with third defense pairing. Might be better with Friedman - Juulsen although such a pairing is probably is also very questionable. Heinen needs to move down the line up and rather see Sassons here than Raty.

Maybe good we see the warts early so maybe they can do something about them.

Sloppy game. Like Ray said in the broadcast, this is a october game.

People need to f***ing chill on Silovs, the kid is just a prospect. He's going to have stinkers, he problably needs another year up and down in the AHL, but once again, he is being called on to preform over his level. No need to flame the guy he has 20 NHL games.
Yeah I think once Demko comes back, he will be back in the A to work out the kinks. His weakness right now is way too easy to exploit which is a big problem. If his weakness is like moving across the crease then at least we can tighten up and stop that’s. His weakness right now is literally weak shots from the point.

I still think if Hoglander-Garland can work, that putting Joshua with Miller-Boeser after he’s back might be the right move

It's also a completely different scenario now then it was when he first came in. There were absolutely 0 expectations on him when he came in last year. Compared to now, where people are treating him like a veteran.

It's a completely different environment to play in.

Yeah he needs time to develop and work on tracking pucks. He’s not ready for the role he has right now.

I think Hoglander was the teams best forward last night, advanced stats back that up for the most part. Seemed like one of the few forwards that were engaged and battling to make things happen. Hoglander had an xG of 1.05 5on5. The entire flames team had an xG of 1.43 5on5.

I know the d was bad tonight but I feel like the forwards just blew the zone early almost every time, felt like the d had no option but to ring it around and it just lead to more zone time for the Flames.

Yup. Demko had time to bake in the AHL before he was a backup here. Silovs needs a lot more AHL experience, but without Demko ready yet, he's going to have to learn under fire in the NHL. Thankfully, we have a vet in Lankinen to help with the load until Demko returns.

Watching in person and a few things were extremely obvious:
- Forbort Desharnais are unplayable. They looked absolutely dreadful against Calgary so I can’t imagine how we can put this out against legitimate teams
- Pettersson is not dialed in
- Sprong blew the zone like 1 out of every 4 shifts. Just straight up cherry picked
- Calgary was obviously exploiting the point shots. Every long shot had our entire section with our buttholes puckered
- Garland was good but didn’t look 100%
- Hoglander is insane along the wall but he doesn’t have consistency in his overall play
- Raty was… ok.
