Petey snipe opened the flood gates. Unlock that thread! We good now.
WHEW - potential blowout turned into squeaker. Third was about as bad you can play and first wasn't much better. Outside of the "outburst" this wasn't pretty. Looked at another way, however, maybe you could say that you are a decent team when you can win playing like they did for much of the game.
Good
Sherwood - wish you could put some of his energy into a few of the other bodies out there. Virtually carried shifts all game. Like Garland gives it all the time, and like Garland is effective.
Garland - tailed off in the third and couldn't carry as much of the play as he did through first and second. As he sagged, so did the team illustrating his importance.
Lankanin - saves he made early in the second were absolutely critical. Canucks could have easily been down 4 - 0. Again huge late in the game. Looks like a bona vide starter to me.
Hronek - carried Hughes again in his end. I think he has clearly been our best d- man this season.
Brannstrom - did a lot of covering for Desharnais and puck movement was good. Does not seem overwhelmed in his end as might have been feared.
Bains - great to see him score and he put in hard shifts every time out. Might have deserved more time in the third given the way some of the Canucks were playing
Sprong - overall good effort. Was no worse than many in his end and did provide some offensive push. Would play him ahead of Heinen.
Not So Good
Desharnais - his poor skating led directly to two of the goals. Frobert can't come back too soon.
Heinen - back to being no good. Looked to be floating much of the game. Not hard, at all, on his checking and just drifted out of play in the offensive end. The contrast b/t him and a player Sherwood is immense.
de Brusk - needs so be better than this. Not in sync with any of the lines he is put on.
Others
Myers - nice little tribute but it didn't seem to inspire Myers to a very good game. Clubbed at the puck too much and too many shifts were spend thrashing around in his crease and around his net. With Soucy, he did help kill off some time late in the game, but he rarely looked on top of his game.
Miller - One of the reasons the PP struggled. That and Boesers inability to put away chances. Scored, but goal was kind of a fluke.
Pettersson - nice goal but again too much start and stop in his play. Somehow must stay on his feet better. Maybe little indications (baby steps as Miller might say ) in the right direction.
At this point, it's getting clearer who was, and who was not a good off-season pick up. Lankanin and Sherwood appear excellent additions but Desharnais, Heinen, and DeBrusk (and I say Deharnais in particular) look more dubious. Don't think we've seen enough of Forbert or Sprong to say either way. Add that Brasnnstrom trade looks good to date.
Second by points% points in 6 of 7 all without our vezina calibre goalie.4th place in the division, one point of being out of a playoff spot. This team is NOT in a good position. Just as I predicted - Johnny C
No doubt, he was always a menace on the forecheck vs Van, very happy to have him on the team and he fits like a glove.I like how a few of us, @Mr. Canucklehead and myself being the loudest, saw Sherwood in the Nashville series and demanded the Canucks sign him. I've never been happier and I'm married with 2 kids.
Agree on Hoglander - lots of good one one board work. I don't think I'm capable of giving Garland a bad review. As usual, pretty spot on with your analysis. I thought Hoglander and Garland were pretty great tonight too.

To me this has been biggest consistent problem under Tok. Team struggless to playing full 60.3/3 for shitty 3rd periods at home. Would like to see that change.
Looked a little cocky in the 3rd, like they figured the game was in the bag. Credit that old AF Pens team with digging deep in the final period of dismal road trip.
Have to think Brannstrom stays in over one of Forbort or Desharnais. Maybe Soucy too. I think we see Forbort-Brannstrom next game.
Another strong game from Lanky. Next game should go to Silovs though.
Bottom 6 looks strong. Joshua returning will really give us some big matchup advantages.
Go Petey. Go Sprong. Go Bains. Hope all 3 took a step tonight.
4 in a row. Let's roll!
Just admit you were wrong and move on mate. That chart means basically nothing. They dominated the second period, and were largely hemmed in their own end for most of the first and third.
Voice of reason. Heinen should be moved down the lines despite scoring two goals last game and his line is absolutely rolling? Debrusk a bad signing less than 10 games in? Team got dominated by the pens despite every metric showing otherwise? People galaxy braining ITT.Disagree with some of the 'played one period' 'lucky win' stuff. We had a slow start for the first 8 minutes and were outshot 7-2 and down 1-0 ... and then for the next ~40 minutes we absolutely pancaked them with the shots 31-5 in our favour for that stretch until we sat back a bit too much at 4-2 for the last 12-15 minutes of the game. This game should have been about 6-2 after 2 periods with the amount of chances we had but Boeser in particular missed about 5 glorious looks.
- thank f*** Pettersson scored, and hopefully that's a big goal in getting him back to form. Actually thought this game was a step backward after he was pretty good against Chicago ... more sloppy play, less involved offensively tonight.
- Blueger and Sherwood were probably the two best forwards, incredible how cheap we have these guys signed for for 2 more years. Both just tireless at both ends of the rink.
- even if he didn't score, that was easily the best NHL game for Arshdeep Bains. Looked legitimately good tonight, showed some really nice chemistry with Sprong, battled hard at both ends of the rink and was involved in several quality chances.
- Sprong's best game also, glad Tocchet didn't hold that ridiculously soft late penalty against him. Competed well. really dangerous on the rush tonight.
- Garland wasn't great in the 3rd but through 40 minutes he absolutely carried his line.
- Debrusk is really struggling to find his place in the roster. Probably our least effective forward tonight. Supposed to be a sniper but not really getting in shooting positions.
- Brannstrom was pretty solid in his first couple games but started getting some happy feet and confidence tonight and was legitimately good. Moved pucks up the ice in a hurry, skated well, didn't really do much wrong defensively.
- Desharnais had some very good shifts ... and then a couple very bad moments. Sometimes you can see where he could be a really important player 50 games from now and other times you think he'll be in the press box 50 games from now.
- Lankinen made some very good saves. Was a little late reacting on the 2-0 goal but the save on Letang at 2-0 immediately before we pop 3 goals was absolutely massive.
Wut?Voice of reason. Heinen should be moved down the lines despite scoring two goals last game and his line is absolutely rolling? Debrusk a bad signing less than 10 games in? Team got dominated by the pens despite every metric showing otherwise? People galaxy braining ITT.
