stud: Panarin because he's a truly elite forward which we haven't had in a long time
breakout: Tony D, Fox, or Kakko
scrub: Staal is a safe choice because he's going to play a lot and he is just useless at this point.

Stud: Kakko, he will be everything we have dreamed of the last years. A star from day 1.

Breakout: Buchnevich, he will take the next step, doing something we never got from Kreider. Buch will be a legit top line player the other
teams worry about.

Scrub; Fast, injuries will take its toll on him. He will "never" be healthy and end the season guarding the hot dogs in the press box.

Stud: Panarin

Breakout: the two guys who are gonna wanna be paid. Watch for Lemieux. Important catalyst for our bottom 6 and will be big help for young guys like Lias who play with him.

Scrub: obvious choice Staal but kill me if you want but Names. Might not be a scrub but if I see him anywhere a pp unit no Bueno

Panarin
Andersson
Strome

Panarin is worth his weight in gold, for now at least. Lias will have a big year. Strome won't score at nearly the clip he had in the past and won't be able to keep up with his line mates. He'll struggle, be demoted, and shipped out for a fourth.

Stud: Adam Fox. Kakko will struggle at first then turn it on in 2nd half. But Fox will end up being our best rookie this season

Breakout: Buchnevich 60 points this year.

Scrub: Staal will be so bad that he will be forced into the press box by New Years. Will retire at year’s end.

Stud: Panarin

Breakout: Buch. Panarin will help him on and off the ice.

Scrub: Tony D. He won't be awful per say, but he won't live up to the expectations the fanbase is setting. Thanks to Fox and Trouba, he won't get the offensive zone and PP mins he needs to put up big numbers. He'll make a few awful plays trying to do too much, which people will notice and harp on. His usual immaturity issues will prevent him from playing a full season.

You know this is an interesting take and one I toyed around with myself.

I almost felt like adding a fourth category for a guy who won't be bad per se, but might struggle to match the expectations. ADA and Trouba were too guys who I'd consider for that spot. Kreider is another.

With ADA I worry the cart gets so far ahead of the horse, that we overlook that he's still a work in progress. With Trouba I wonder how he does away from a team like Winnipeg and in a role where he is unquestionably "the man" on defense. With Kreider, it's more of a gut thing that isn't based on any one or two things in particular. It's just a weird uneasy feeling.

Reactions: East Coast Bias
STUD: Ziba, playing with Panarin will help take his game to another level.
Breakout: ADA, has the potential to be our best offensive defenseman since our all too brief honeymoon with Yandle
DUD: Howden, he's gotten all of the mileage he can out of the nude gladiator pictures of Quinn that he clearly possesses

I'm an ADA fan, but I almost feel like it's possible that his role was already heavily marginalized this off-season, and I'm not sure people have grasped that.

I have trouble with the idea that we're going to keep 3 RHD that are offensively minded, puck carrying kind of players. I think the team will try to diversify their d and long term would rather the 3rd RHD dman be a solid defensive/PK kind of guy.

Whether Tony D ends up the odd man out I don't know. I just have trouble seeing all 3 coexisting in large roles long-term.

STUD: to me, this is our can't miss guy. It has to be PANARIN.

SCRUB: the flip-side to stud. It's STAAL, and no one else is close.

BREAKOUT: to me, this is the most surprising contributor. The player who most exceeds his projections. ZIBANEJAD. The kid has been steadily improving every season, and he finally gets a winger that can complement him. I think he cracks 90 points.

I agree with the most common take here

Stud: DeAngelo

Dud: Howden
