Lmao dude was a foot offside and that triggers this thread? I distinctly remember oiler fans getting laughed at from Schrodingers puck possession where the carried puck is not possessed because its not literally on the stick. Foh with that. Good review, good call.

To even put that in is the most silliest things ever. It's like, lets be technical just to be technical.

I believe in the spirit of the rule. Have a guy half a step offsides is not what the rule makers had in mind. PERIOD.
One period after they did that, we would get "bring back the offside review"

I was watching game hilights without knowing the result. When they skated over the line I made a mental note that if they score it's going to be reviewed. It was a pretty clear offiside. However, the goal came a while afterwards, Kraken's defense had been more or less formed between the puck and the crease. What a joke of a call (I do appreciate the actual rules but the way this went down is ridiculous, it's a good goal). Something needs to be changed. A time limit, as suggested above, is one of viable options.

It's the best rule in professional sports.

I love how it kills the excitement of a goal and sucks away life right out of the game.

Wanna cheer for a goal? No, go f*** yourself. Just watch every zone entry and hope they stay onside and if it looks off, hope they never score a goal.

A rule is a rule is a rule is a rule and boy I love rules
I also love zone entries and offside reviews. Goals are for casual fans and nerds.

Another classic. If we're getting rid of the review, just get rid of offside calls entirely.

I love it! This is EXACTLY why the offside review is so important, and the exact instance I suggested it would be important for.

Game 7 in a 1-goal or tie game, team has a very obvious offside that goes uncalled and ends up scoring on it to tie/take the lead late in a game, and review corrects it easily.

Thank god they got it right. That one corrected call could have very well been the difference between who won the series.

The call tonight is exactly what the review should be for. It's the ones they stare at for 10mins trying to see if it was a pubic hair offside that frustrates people.

The zone entry was seven seconds before the goal was scored - I like how the ref even noted the time on the clock, don't think I've ever heard that before.

But it is pretty annoying to have a linesman miss the call in real time and then face no repercussions for it. Or maybe he does, behind the scenes, who knows. I doubt it.

Boston fans wanna be able to break the rules to win ? What else is new

I thought this was about the Colorado goal that got called back, was there another one in the Bruins game? Must've missed it.

I actually agree with the OP.

How many times per game does a player dump the puck from a couple feet behind center red and no icing call? No one cares and no one wants reviews on that. What's so different about offsides?

I like the idea of it's only offsides if the linesmen call it offsides. If they didn't call it then close enough, keep playing.

I'm fine with the call last night, but I'd also be fine if the goal counted.

Get rid of offside and icing. It would really open up the game and make it more exciting.
No icing would not make the game more exciting at all. It would make it really easy for teams under pressure to get immediate relief by just flipping the puck to break offensive momentum with the additional bonus of being able to change lines, it would completely destroy the speed of the game. It would make hockey more similar to soccer by enabling parking-the-bus tactics that would reduce scoring.

How about no? Offside is offside. It's black and white.

If you want to get rid of the blue line altogether which eliminates offsides and change the game, sure, think about doing that but removing the ability in a fast moving sport to get it right? Nope.

It takes less than a minute to review them.

Goals are exciting because they're hard to score.

the avs were obviously offside, this is exactly what the rule is there for and they 100% got it right

I mean.....if they "100% got it right" then the play would've been blown dead before Mack even scored. :dunno:

These "ackshually, your zone entry was sorta offsides, way before that goal was scored" video reviews are pretty lame, even IF they're done by the letter of the law.

they clearly can't catch them all in real time, video review has helped some of us understand that

it also wasn't "sorta offsides", it was easily offsides and play should've been stopped on the zone entry, but there's no magical free pass just because they miss it upfront anymore

i guess it can feel lame, but allowing a goal that clearly shouldn't have counted is a worse outcome, particularly in a game 7
