The 2nd half of the 1st period was controlled by Finland. The 2nd period not so much. The Germans did a much better job and with Merilainen in net a one goal lead would make me nervous as f*** if I was a Finn

By what metrics? Germany hasn’t have any sustained offensive zone time that had lead to high danger scoring chances. Germany has been doing good job in their own zone and decent job in the neutral zone but have done absolutely nothing in the o-zone throughout the game.

I’m not laughing… I called this one to be a close game in that predictions thread. I saw how well Germany played in their last game. But this is still Finland’s game to lose.

Jalonen will get any coaching job in EU if he want's it. His record is too good. I doubt he has any rush though.

Most of Jalonen's decicions make sense to viewers even though they might not agree on how good they are. Pennanen's decisions so far have not been so sensible.

Their issues seem more systematic, coaching. Of course some real bonehead plays by many defensemen too. This doesn't look like the machine that team Finland has been lately, different vibe. Special teams are bad and defense doesn't cover like they normally would as a team. Maybe a bad crop but I bet they would look very different under Jalonen.
