This happens every year, Canada will blow someone out and you’ll have the same posters coming in to scream how classless they are
14 players versus 20?

This is a massive moving of the goal posts.

This isn't a second rate team against the best in the world.

This is 14 players versus 20.

Canada doesn't have to take it easy, the could simple play 2 out of 4 lines for the 3rd period. Give some valued practice to 6 of your forwards versus giving 12 of your forwards the day off.

At the end of the day the german players as individuals will look better for simply staying in the game.

For the rest of the tournament Canadian stats no longer matter.

This has nothing to do with superior talent this is exploiting a technicality.

And that greed will now hurt the team as they just lost any effective value as this being a practice.

Canada doesn't even have the chl up and running which puts us at a major disadvantage against the american(ncaa)/russians(khl).

Not like we celebrated or tried to rub it in. No one was really running around overly physical like we were initially breaking them with the forecheck in the 1st period.

Can’t expect our guys to just quit and stop playing.
I’m thinking several of our players had a point to make regarding Stutzle getting drafted higher than they did. It’s like some were proving a point. Germany is a very weak team though. Maybe the third period should have been 20 minutes of soccer?

Stop it with such true logic, you know there is no room for that in this thread!

He’s probably mentally and physically exhausted after back to back days of leaving it all on the ice.

Ottawa’s got a leader and a superstar coming along imho. I’m a believer.
If I’m Ottawa, I am extremely grateful for this game.

This game will forever shape this kid’s character moving forward in the NHL, and light a fire in his eyes every time he [Stutzle] plays against a player from this WJC Canadian Roster. It’s Pavlov's theory.

Were both Jets fans, and considering Perfetti’s a Jet. Let’s just say, “Be afraid. BE VERY AFRAID!”

One can debate if it's right or wrong to blow out an opponent, but what you can't debate is that these type of games are bad for the sport, they are bad for the tournament, they are bad for Germany and they are bad for Canada.
And yet all will go on, same as life.

There has been blowouts before and there will be blowouts again, it is sports after all, they happen and sport goes on.

Why on earth would you rest players? You realize most of these kids have barely played hockey since March, right? You obviously want to give them as many reps as possible before the games get serious. They literally had a single tune up game.

And you are not wrong, when Draisaitl was picked in the Draft, his U20 tournament was horrible. Because he had no Player who had his skill level and compete on his Level.
So Draisaitl still scored Goals and showed a bit of his Game, but his preformance, people called it a downer and look now where he is.
Huh? People raved about both Draisaitl’s first WJC (D-1). People expected a bit more in his 2nd (draft year), but he was far from terrible. Overall his WJCs were a big boost to his draft stock, and rightly so.

Stutzle was very good in his first WJC (draft year), and will likely be very good this year too. Thought he was great in the first game, got shut down against Canada, but hard to blame him in such a huge mismatch.

Very high on Stutzle, would like to see him improve his nose for the net, but he’s a super dynamic playmaker, and love his compete level. But saying Draisaitl had horrible WJC play is so far from the truth IMO.

12 not very good players, one okay guy, and one very good guy against 20 very good guys is what went on out there. The Germans could have had fifty guys, and the score would have been the same if they were all the same level of those 12 guys that just aren’t very good. Even Stutzle really wasn’t very good this game. It was a a very sad game for Germany.

"Pick up bad habits," or "get sloppy!" This is mirror, mirror on the wall stuff. This is about self-glorification and self-adoration, all with the Canadian flag shimmering in the background. They could have taken their foot off the gas when it was, oh, say, 8-1. Don't worry about them taking their foot off the gas when they are say, trailing by 2 goals to a team like Sweden or the Russians. They would never consider doing that. Psychologically, over the next week, this will probably hurt them more than help. It will give them a false sense of majesty when just three days ago they were struggling to go end to end with Russia. They could end up regretting that they ended up choosing to humiliate the Germans.

Have you actually watched the game?

They did took their foot off the gas. Could have been a 25 goals games if they wanted to.

Goalie was horrible. With little above average goaltending, it would have been a 10-2 game.

What do you want them to do? Pull their goalie or just dump de puck?

Despite losing 16-1, Stuetzle had a better, more noticeable individual game than any Canadian player, so if that’s why they were going for...

I don’t think Canada is classless or anything like that. You have to keep playing, and they did. But let’s call a spade a spade, Germany’s goaltending was horrendous. I really hope this doesn’t lull them into a false sense of security. The coaching staff should be telling them that this game means nothing over and over until they play again.

The last time Canada routed a team like this they didn’t even end up winning a medal.

Reminded me of Latvia vs Canada in 2010. I debated on watching some of the game, it was just unfair to Germany. It'd be funny if it was Canada dominating the US, Sweden or Russia, but I ended up watching the whole game because I wanted to watch Perfetti.

Sad for Germany because it's probably one of their best teams considering they have two very good players this year.

Maybe we know why Seider didn’t want to play on this German team?

Unfortunate situation for Germany an Canada. Hopefully it was something that Canada can use and build on and hopefully Germany come out motivated with a fuller contingent for its next two games.
