German football season 2023/24

So however the Hertha - HSV game ends, the top 8 in the Pokal will include:

Three Bundesliga teams (Stuttgart, Leverkusen, Gladbach)
Four 2. Bundesliga teams (St. Pauli, Kaiserslautern, Düsseldorf, HSV/Hertha)
One 3. Liga team (Saarbrücken)

Lovely match, so glad I chose to watch it over the Premier League. Dortmund can count themselves lucky to only lose 0-2.

Hertha goes through on penalties. Raab probably should've saved at least one of, or both the 4th and 5th penalties.

Anyway, now I'm off to bed for a few hours until I start my trip to Dortmund.

Feel for Netz on that handball, but that should be a pen according to how they've called them all season.

After Behrens almost opened the scoring (twice) we have a lead after Volland converts from the spot.

Damn, Hollerbach's dribbling & passing skills may not be much as he relies on his combativeness to create space, but the kid can really lace the ball. Excellent goal and almost snagged a second with a great turn-&-shoot.

Second time we've gotten a good low cross into the 6yard box without getting a leg to it. Hopefully we can put this to bed and get our first win in living memory.

Now Kaufmann with the nice finish for his first BuLi goal to give us a 3-0 lead with just 15 left in regulation :yo:

It's been 105 days since our last win

EDIT:
...3-1...

Gladbach has looked so bad this season.

Of course I say that and then they score.

They've been extremely inconsistent from what I've seen...and they are a lot worse on the road than they are at home. The can pour goals in in bunches and concede them in bunches just as quickly. I feel like getting Omlin back in goal should be huge for them, he was excellent before getting hurt.

Injuries in general have been rough for them as key pieces from last season like Itakura & Kone have also missed a bunch of time.

I do still think that a proper back 3 would be better for them...as Wöber, Elvedi, & Scally were made to play outside CB in a back 3, Itakura could be more influential with two CBs around him, and both Netz & Honorat would benefit from the freedom of getting to play as full-blown wingbacks.

Plea/Ngoumou - Cvancara/Jordan
Netz - Reitz/Neuhaus - Kone/Reitz - Honorat
Kramer/Weigl
Wöber - Itakura/Elvedi/Friedrich - Elvedi/Scally
Omlin

But that's secondary to their injuries.

Union finally got a win, Freiburg beat the Wobbies, Werder beat Augsburg, and Bayern lost. What a wonderful day of football!

Only thing that could've made it better would've been a draw between Darmstadt & Heidenheim that prevented either of them from getting 3 pts.

Oof... They'd have preferred the initial penalty decision there. Not sure what pixel they used to change the call. Contact was made on both sides of the line if anything.
