German football season 2023/24

He moves well with good size but his physical tools aren’t particularly special; he’s no Havertz or Haaland in either size or speed. Ignoring playing style and technical skills his physical tools are most like Brandt’s of recent German attackers.

And yeah, very different application. Beier was a central striker coming up who only started playing on the wing when he went on loan to Hannover. While Timo was the opposite, a lifelong winger who was turned into a forward at the senior level.

As for Adeyemi he was banged up this summer and missed their preseason; so he’s still working his way into form. Malen has settled in well for them since his slow start; he’s a lot more like Timo.
Yeah I agree with most of this. Who does Beier remind you of in not Timo; btw completely agree Beier was center and went wide and Timo was wide and went center.

Adeyemi I just think has higher ceiling than Malen and LFC can desperately use another left footer

It’s tough to find a German comparison for him because we haven’t had a really successful striker prospect since Klose, and I don’t follow foreign kids outside the BuLi closely enough at younger ages to make a good comparison outside of the German sphere.

At the youth levels he looked kinda like a poor man’s Eggestein, a little bigger but not as skilled or elegant. But Jojo spent the better part of his 18-22 years going from the physios to the operating table and so we never saw what he could’ve become at the senior level.

He kinda reminds me of a young Lewandowski…though obviously it’s unlikely he develops as well as Lewa did in the BuLi…he has a similar frame, speed, and technical skills to Lewa when he first arrived in Dortmund, and he seems like a crafty kid with the requisite brazenness.

Or maybe last season’s ECMC with better speed?

And yeah, Malen (like Timo) is super fast, but they’re not Adeyemi fast. Karim has that Mbappe / Becker speed where he can dust even speedy defenders. He’s also quite powerful for his size and so is hard to knock off balance.

Although his technical skills are not in that Musiala / Wirtz tier of wizardry, he’s got very good feet and can deliver good crosses as well as shoot from distance.

Füllkrug with a goal on both ends before the 10 minute mark. Elite.

Also choosing to watch some Bundesliga today, see what's the deal with this young exciting Stuttgart team and their crown pearl in Guirassy against the Wobbies who have also started well this year. Very impressed by both the passing display and the intensity, this is a good league to watch for the neutral football fan.

It's a pretty exciting team but also definitely not as good as their current position. 12 out of their 15 points are against the current 4 teams at the bottom of the table.

You can see it in today's match, not much offense generated (except Guirassy's offside goal) and that left flank of Maehle and Tomas is giving them fits defensively. Arnold is a controlling presence in midfield, every time I see him I wonder why the NT isn't using him, it's not like midfield is their strong point.

BVB needs to loan Moukoko elsewhere. Right know he isn't getting any time behind Füllkrug and Haller.

Things have gotten very tense between him and management. Won’t be shocked if he’s sold.
Yeah that's what I've read too, but I feel even if they've already decided in selling him, they should try to pump up his value first by having him on a loan.

Arnold is difficult to deal with. His skillset would be great in a utility role, providing midfield & fb cover, but he’s not the kind of guy to just shut up & be a good soldier if not given a big role.

I dunno if that’ll make much difference. Barring a superstar campaign he’s a 30-40M euro prospect.

Fair enough, but one of the two options needs to happen on January.

Schalke's gonna get themselves relegated to the 3rd league.

Yeah that's it. Fleeken was great at Freiburg, and him missing today plus their best 2 defenders shows against this high flying Bayern team. Sane can't stop scoring (helped by Kane being a great 9/10 combination), too bad his second goal was called off for a mm offside, cause that was a thing of beauty.

Agree, but not sure that Haller is deserving of any game time at the moment.

I will be at the Westfalenstadion in two weeks for BVB vs Werder. First game there since 1969 in the old Rote Erde stadion, where I saw BVB vs HSV. Still have the program in mint condition. Sigi Held and Uwe Seeler wore the #9 shirts, respectively, the two strikers on the 1966 FIFA WC finalists.

Then on Sunday, I will be at FC Koln vs 'Gladbach.

Looking forward to it. I saw 4 EPL games the last week of April during an "English Week" in the EPL Ruckrunde.

BVB's in a weird spot were some of their key performers during last season's strong finish have started this season much more poorly, but the overall results have been too good to justify massive changes. Can & Haller in particular both made significant contributions to their push for the title, but have been mediocre at best this campaign.

But yeah, if Mouki doesn't start getting regular game time again, they should loan him to us. Becker - Behrens - Mouki would be lovely once Khedira gets back to solidify things behind them...

Flekken. Atubolu has been terrible.

Atubolu definitely has rough edges still to smooth out. I don't know how to assess keepers but for the youth NTs he did seem to always get himself into trouble...admittedly he also got himself out that trouble with some spectacular saves/interventions, but he was often a high-event keeper.

But he's still a baby, so hopefully that clears up with experience...there's a reason Neuer, MAtS, and Leno were so special when they first broke through.
