German football season 2023/24

You are the only person who thinks he should be the focal point of our offense. We just need him to be a role player like modern Giroud and help the guys behind him shine.

We don’t have France’s back 5...that's why nobody expects this team to win the euros like people expect of France…but our quartet behind the striker (Musiala, Wirtz, Sane, Havertz, Gundogan, Kimmich, etc.) is plenty stacked.
You said spearhead... semantics. The issue with the players you named is where will your goals come from? Another issue is that there isnt a single defender. The team will struggle if you leak goals and dont have a legitimate goal scoring threat. This is football 101.

Anyway tuned in just to see the penalty very soft but happy munich dropped points.

I meant that to describe his position, because he would be leading the line he’s the tip of the spear. Holding balls up and finishing the chances created for him. But the focal point of the offense would be the 4 stars behind him.

And yeah. If we had France’s defense we’d be amongst the favorites, but we don’t so we’re just hoping for a good showing…although our defense can be better than it has been of late even with our talent pool.

Edit:
The big problem is we don’t have an elite CB to anchor everything. We have capable supporting defenders as both Süle and Rüdiger have been the #2 CB on CL winning teams, we just don’t have that superior partner to clean up for them.

Similarly Thiaw and Schlotterbeck have been very promising but both are too inexperienced to anchor the defense. Henrichs has become a damn good FB, but he’s not anchoring the defense from that spot. And Can had the season of his career last year, but again he’s a supporting piece that makes a big difference, not an anchor.

Which is why we can’t be a top team on both sides of the ball. We can create goals as well as any team but we’ll leak goals if we do. We could play a much more defensive brand of football to tighten things up defensively a La my eisernen, but then we’d be talking about just two of our attacking stars starting.

So we’re going to have to live with some shortcomings unless MAtS pulls a Kahn-2002.

I feel like our best bet is probably having Thiaw play the cleaner upper role for Rüdiger, or banking on that club chemistry with Nico & Nik…with defensive FBs and a more traditional 6.

Maehle scored a great volley to put FC VW up 2-1. There’s space though, we just have to utilize it.

Lovro Majer is a nifty player. Think he might be better for the wobbies than Nmecha was, despite the kid's production last season. Nmecha was a much more dynamic ball-carrier, but he wasn't as crafty.

Really feel for Behrens today. He was busting his ass the whole time but things just kept bouncing against him. On another day he scores 1-2 goals and doesn't give away the opener.

Oh well, on to Madrid...so incredibly hyped :yo:

You're really weird....

Kolo bring much more than goals and yet has significantly better G/A but somehow, he's a proof that Germany can start an inferior striker. OK.
Or Giroud who started for two WC final teams is somehow a proof you can start Fullkrug because he's so "ANCIENT" that he's still as productive and obviously brings a linup play few players in the world bring.

Weird.

It's cause you misunderstood what I was saying and were having a different conversation than me. I was not talking about being as good as France and contending, I was only talking about getting to the QFs+ next summer with a cohesive (or at least coherent)...if still under-talented in defense...side.

Kolo Muani came up because of D2M's comment about leading the BuLi in goals not meaning much. So forgetting that RKM came off the bench for you I made a joke about how if the 3rd best goalscorer in the BuLi was good enough for the WM-finalist, the 2nd best should be good enough for us to win a knockout game.

You pointing out that Giroud, with all of his pedigree, is only producing at the same rate as Füllkrug only made my point that if Nic keeps up his level of play, he should be plenty good enough to hold the seat warm until Moukoko or Weiper is ready...or someone like Berisha takes an unexpected step...even if that goal every ~50min for the NT drops closer to his club rate.

TL;DR
Of course we don't have Mbappe or your defense behind that 9, but we also don't have the same expectations...and if both Musiala and Wirtz could ever be healthy for the NT at the same time again, even without a Mbappe, we could be fun to watch again.

Another great match for Xavi Simons with a goal and an assist, and if this was ice hockey he would have got a 2nd assist as well, since he made the 2nd last nice pass for the 3rd goal.

Entertaining match between Freiburg and Dortmund, and good subs by both sides. First Grifo came on because of injury and provided both goals for Freiburg in the first half. Then Fullkrug (who replaced Haller) made a nice flick for a Dortmund goal and finally another sub Reus wrapped things up.

Hummels with his 2 goals has now scored in 16 successive BL seasons, equalling the record set by Olaf Thon.

After scoring off the bench in their last two matches, Maximillian Beier got the start today and potted his 3rd goal in 3 matches for TSG with an excellent strike that iced the win for the Hoffenheimer.

That was a beauty. One of those players I've followed on because of a loan in an FM save, lol.

So, Julian Nagelsmann becomes the next NT coach. I had prefered MF Felix Magath just to show those punks that you have to earn a spot on the team.

No Sandro Wagner as a co btw. It's a shame. I like that guy.

edit. My bad, Wagner is on board, too. He will quit his job at ZDF.

That would've been a good way to make the NT an even more toxic environment. With Magath at the helm we could've extended our streak to the euros as well :yo:

IMO, it doesn't matter. This team is bad anyway. The French simply didn't want to embarrass Germany for some reason.

Guirassy is powerful and decent in the air. Not much of anything else.
He's hit double digits once in his career, including in Ligue 2.

3 times now, no? Once at Rennes and then last year also?

Going to laugh when Stuttgart sells him for some ridiculous price to like...Everton.

Stuttgart are also in a good run of form playing against some eh defending. But he’s been pretty great for them.

Everyone assumes it’s lightning in a bottle for a short bit and he’ll revert to the norm. Much like their team

They were lucky to get him for 9 mil from the bargain bin, they pretty much avoided relegation last year because of him and only due to injuries did his season stay under the radar. Goals per match he was fourth in the league already then.
