I would say Blais too before he got hurt. He actually shows a glimpse of an offensive game while hitting everything that moves.

All these guys mentioned is what you need for playoff hockey.
I agree about Blais for sure but PK Subban ruined that for us. I can not believe Subban continues to get away with all these slewfoots.

Gallant should be front runner for the Jack Adams through the quarter mark. When this team is clicking it is playing beautiful hockey in all areas of the game - offensively, defensively, neutral zone, forecheck, backcheck, physical play. Doesn’t always happen for long stretches (even tonight I would say wasn’t a top to bottom good game) but tonight in the 2nd it sure did. Hats off to what he has been able to get out of this group so far.

Sheldon Keefe should likely be in the conversation and I'd even put Mike Sullivan in there given how many man games they've lost this season

He has gotten this team to win close games. They choked nearly every time last year in similar circumstances. That, to me, is the sign of someone keeping things steady and having a good feel for his team + situational hockey.

The Rangers are winning games they would’ve lost last year, and are doing it rolling all four lines.

I don’t want to make this a pile on Quinn thread, but Gallant is way better at pushing the right buttons with his players, getting them ready to play, and putting them in a position to succeed.

Whats even more encouraging is that they’re doing this without Mika scoring goals. If he gets going this team is going to do some special things.

I agree...we will score more as this season moves along . The PP can be much better as well . Laf-Chytil-Gauthier will also score more .

What I really appreciate about Gallant:
1) He's fiery as f*** while still respected by the officials. He gets passionate when the moment calls for it but unlike Torts he doesn't burn his bridges with everyone and the refs always give him the time of day.
2) He seems like a players coach but that doesn't result in pond hockey with no on-ice accountability or responsibility. The Rangers are getting more disciplined in their zone and on special teams.
3) He looks like he's having a blast as do the players. That will go a long way when the bounces don't go their way. I don't think I ever saw Quinn have fun or the players ever enjoy being around AV.

Gallant was talking yesterday in his presser about protecting a lead late in a game and how it doesn't include turtling and laying back but rather continuing to push the play and forecheck. That's really all we need to know about this guy's mentality. Night and day from Quinn.

And AV. Though because of Hank AV was very successful at protecting 3rd period leads.

Tough one but I would say under considering the east has some formidable teams and you never know about injuries as we just saw with Shesty. I would say 102-105 points and 2nd or 3rd in the metro.

Call me crazy and I know we still haven't played most of the great teams but with our start I'll be a little disappointed with that record. It would be what happened to that 2015-16 team that everyone hates. BTW, it blows my mind how they were a .500 team in 2014-15 well into December, between those two teams changing trajectory in the season you just never know.

They are on a 124 point pace. That is not going to continue. I'm just expecting some normal regression and would be thrilled with a point total that cements a 2nd or 3rd place position in the metro.

Yeah, I know it won't continue but would be nice to get around 110 points. Would be even nicer to beat the point total of that 2014-15 team that had 113 points. I know I'm being greedy about a team that hasn't made the playoffs 5 seasons. And maybe it'll all fall apart and they'll miss the playoffs.

The only thing that would make it fall apart is significant injuries to key players. Otherwise they are very likely to get in. They are a good team.

You're right.....

We finish with 133 pts. 63-12-7 . Break single season W's and PTS record

but we're not even hitting on all cylinders yet.

This is why I love this coach. 1:36

This will serve them well when the games get real important. It's a mindset you have to build. Turk is the closest thing to Torts but without all the added bullshit that came along with his brash personality.

The thing about Torts I loved was he was only concerned about what his team needed to do. He didn't even want to answer questions about the other team. It was all about what the team needed to focus on to improve.

Its a simple mindset but guys like Renney, Quinn and AV were too concerned with matchups, off-ice stuff and over-analyzing the opponent. When you do that it creeps into unnecessary lineup changes, demotions and playing to your opponents strengths and not your own. You play with an intent to counter your opponent and not on instinct and perfecting roles.

There is a need for that analyzation but it doesn't need to be conveyed to the players directly. You serve it up in the game plan as a systems execution. Gallant changes his lineup to form what he believes will yield the hardest working and effective lineup, no matter what team they are going up against. This makes it easier for players to find their role and the cog they need to be effective at for the entire machine to work.

Turtling into a shell to defend is showing too much respect for your opponent. You want to stay positive and on the attack. Its no surprise that with that mindset alone you will win more 1 goals games than squander them.

We are seeing a very talented team given permission to let their skill take over and play loose and positive - as long as its within the general framework of what Gallant and Kelly want.
