A buddy of mine says he really likes his low effort shot. Somewhere between Kucherov / Pettersson esque. Nowhere near as powerful but sneaky and quick.
Yup

Everybody is intriguing lol but this guy really is

He’s a temporary ADD killer because when he’s on the ice he’s a case study at least for now

I have misread your hints at unnamed players. I apologize, will edit.
Yeh Dom definitely doesn’t do comps I have tried to pull out of him but he would go over traits and style - I remember we had a lot of Jason Robertson discussion back when he was in OHL and I could draw a picture (he nailed it) based on the description but I couldn’t come up with one player he compared him to - he stood on his own

That said, when I watch Merkulov, I see some Sergei Samsonov. Not exactly but some similarities

Drivers tweets on him needing a map in the D zone + his not great size make me think winger. Does he have enough speed or is he gonna be a Seth Griffith?

Dom mentioned a few similarities to Sergei Samsonov. I don't see it, especially in the skating gameBe it is only two games at Bentley I watched him live.

The good news is he can get faster, but the other stuff you can't teach. There was no denying he stood out in the offensive zone.

Amur Khabarovsk has traded Merkulov's KHL rights to CKSA Moscow, which developed Merkulov in its youth system. Amur received minor league defenseman Ilya Dervuk.

I would assume this is CKSA setting themselves up in case Merkulov doesn’t work out in the US.

Does this guy have a chance at the NHL next year?

I've never seen him play, so this really is a question for those who saw him in Providence.

He led the team in scoring. 2nd in the entire AHL among rookies in points. It seems impressive.

He'll be 23 at the start of next season.

Is he a winger or center? Which did he play more down in Providence? He's a left-shot, can he play his off-wing? I heard he's got a really good shot. He seems too small to play center at the NA Pro level but there are always exceptions.

What is his skating like? Is his skating more "AAAA" type of player than an NHL one?

What is his playstyle? Does he bring anything unique?

Bruins will need cheap young talent next year, especially up front. Is there any reason why this guy couldn't be part of the mix next season or at least in the discussion. Seems more reasonable to think he'd be in the mix over Lysell who is still pretty young (and has a fair bit of work to do based on his WJC).

EDIT: That's an NHL level one-timer without question.

Here is his coach talking about his much improved game in his own end. (Side note: This Ryan Mougenel seems really well-spoken and intelligent).

You guys know better than me, but that shot reminds of Pastrňák setting up in his office.

RM, "well spoken and intelligent," appears to demand two way play in all three zones, and "Merk," receptive to the message, has responded well.

Size may be an issue, but encouraging stuff,

He can really rip it for a guy 5'10-5'11 and a buck 180. That lower center of gravity helps him get good wood on his one-timers as it's easier to get his blade on passes for one-timers in his feet. Taller guys like OV have to increase the lie of their stick to accomplish the same effect.

I figured I'd bump the thread as I'd love to hear from people who saw him down in Providence.

I have seen him live in 2-3 this season live but nowhere near as Eric who serves as my Director of Scouting for my SIM team

I’ll run what I think of him and see if and what agrees

Bruins can’t sign Bertuzzi seems

Merkulov I’d like to see go to LW with Zacha & Pastrnak

He has high end skill

He’s.a lot older but I thought he was much father along than Lysell

I like him and would not surprise me if he can be good to very good

Character work ethic off the charts - type of person I am told probably works high up for nhl team

He’s got sense’

Reminded me actually of Cole Perfetti the way he moves around and made plays

If he can handle pace this could be a big hit

He's so much better at Center than LW, they had him playing LW to become better at board battles which he's has, historically Boston likes their Center's 6 feet +, Merkulov while sub 5'11 is stout,he's got a man's body and doesn't shy away from the rough stuff, defense has come a long way but he could never play for Claude...
Offensively he's ready for a long look

I say throw him between Hall and DeBrusk next season and see what he can do.

Just by seeing him rip those one-timers on his offside halfwall…I think he would be dynamite with Hall on a third line roll. How many times did Hall feed Frederic who couldn’t finish any of those chances…

Can’t wait to see him

Would you be comfortable having him center Pastrnak
