You guys do realize I never said Lundqvist was bad. I said the King name bothers me because he has no Championships and is like to see him leave now.
Time is up. I’m watching this team
40 years. It’s about championships nothing else will do

Didn't that nickname start in Sweden and accompany him over here?

If so, not much to object too... The Sweden hockey market is not the North American NHL market... Over there he can be the 'King' when it comes to hockey...

He's the King here too.

Is he though? I feel like Georgiev has a tendency to implode and give up 6 any night he's not great.
This feels like it’s in the same family as the ‘Rangers can’t score against backups’ thing, we register the standouts because they’re not what we expect and we tend to forget the ones that end up going the way we expect them to go

You could be right but I don't think I've ever said to myself "Georgiev was fine tonight"

Added benefit of Georgiev starting 3rd straight is that Henrik tastes backup role and feels how uncomfortable it makes him feel. Perhaps it will induce King to retire at end of season and allow for Georgi/ Shesty tandem going forward.
I vividly remember that quote where Henrik expressed his ultimate discomfort.
Holy making shit up.

For pretty much a decade Henrik was unquestionably the Rangers best player. After Jagr went off to greener pastures the Rangers were always an offensively challenged team. The Rangers relied on Lundqvist more than any other team in the league relied on their goalie and he led them on a number of long playoff runs. He was an elite goalie--very arguably the best goalie in the league. That's why he got the contract he did. So now we have a number of people ready to throw him under the bus. I guess this lack of appreciation is par for the course and should be expected because there are always going to be people trying always to find a negative position to roost on.

Nope. Here in Sweden we just call him "Henke"*. The whole "King"-thing started when he came over to NA.

According to Wikipedia:
By the second month of his second season, Lundqvist had already made a name for himself in the hockey world, among his fellow players and with Ranger fans. Because of his spectacular athletic ability and work ethic, he earned the nickname "King Henrik" or simply "The King".

*In some parts of Sweden he also goes by "Lunkan" (which is a completely idiotic thing started by the Stockholm media). By the real fans in Gothenburg and Frölunda circles, he will always be known as Henke.

He was fine against Ottawa. Just because a team scores 6 doesn't mean its the goalies fault.
Georgie is going to be fine. His fundamentals are too good for him to deviate too far off the mark.

Lundqvist gives up 6 goals: "This defense sucks. Lundqvist was left out to dry"
Georgiev gives up 6 goals: "See? He isn't as good as Lundqvist"

Some of the Lundqvist defenders are just as bad as the Lundqvist bashers when it comes to twisting facts to suit their narrative. Both are good goalies, both have games where they give up bad goals. Both have games where the defense leaves them out to dry.

I wonder how Hank feels about the way Quinn is handling the goalies. I think he is doing the right thing. Between Georgie playing a bit better than Hank and needing to get, at least for now, his goalie of the future, enough time to get him experience and keep him sharp.
I suppose if Hank get in there and plays lights out, Quinn should give him the net until he doesn't play well.
The main difference I see with the goalies now is that Georgie plays bigger because he is almost always in position, square and isn't hesitant to stand up and challenge the shooter. I see Hank making more dramatic looking saves and swimming in the crease, I believe, because he gets caught out of position more than Georgie.
In any case, it would be interesting to hear Hanks take on what is going on.

No, I never heard it here in Sweden before he went abroad. Most commonly he was refered to "Henke" or "Lunkan".

Edit: Just saw that another poster answered it already.

Exactly. The nickname is partly based on his nationality. His heritage. Coming from a country that has a monarchy etc. The national team literally having 3 crowns on their logo.

Thinking he got the nickname in Sweden would be the equivalent of calling Brandon Dubinsky "Yankee doodle" or calling Rick Nash "Mounty"

No it was definitely a mixture of the three crowns and King Kong ascending to the throne in New York at the end of the Dark Ages, which he most certainly ended and then some.

Are fans are just getting suckier.

Can we go back to a certain person wishing that the Rangers never signed him to a long term deal? Last night was vintage Henke. And that is the way that he played through the Rangers playoff runs. Without him, they would have gone nowhere.
