In the third CBJ turtled completely and basically just lobbied pucks into the neutral zone. Of course that is going to skew shooting stats.
We dominated the whole gameThis is true but I hate to do this how much of that was score effects? We dominated in the third period when the game was pretty out of reach.
Missed the game as was out hiking and no cell coverage. Saw the result on way home.
Bugger.
From a lot of the write ups and comments scoreline did not reflect the gameplay.
We didn't play well. They played pucks deep on us and the D struggled to move the puck up the ice the same way we did in the Buffalo game. We were also much sloppier in the neutral zone. Looked more like we did under Gallant in that regard. We huffed and puffed but the breaks didn't go our way. We generated a ton of half arsed chances. We did have work ethic so that was nice.
They had most of their best chances in the 2nd.
Was more than huffing and puffing and just loading up when the game was out of reach. They loaded up on the volume in the third for sure but their best work came before that.
They were looser in general defensively so I’m with you on that but the offense was more than just kitchen sink tossing.
The first one?Missed the game tonight. Just watched the highlights. Did I miss an important rule change about offsides or something? Why was the rangers goal called back?
This is correct. I’ve loved every bit of the Trocheck signing. He sets a great example. No problem with his minutes. The kids have gotten plenty of ice too. It’s not a zero sum game.Trocheck had a great game. You’re clearly biased in favor of the kids. I’m sorry Trocheck showed far more than Lafreniere, Kakko, and Chytil tonight.
Game one, I agree they passed up some nice opportunities. Clearly Laviolette made a point of that and today they were much more willing to shoot. Aside from the one Kakko passed up that ended up in the back of our net. But that’s hockey. They’re making smart adjustments. We attempted like 80 shots
On those east-west passes though I want them to shoot quicker. Getting that good look allows the goalie to get set. I saw it a couple times today. It might have been Kakko on one particular play in the third I think. Cuylle’s goal was an example of getting the puck away immediately off a pass and catching the goalie not-set.I think they still tend to rush their shots. The way they move the puck, they are getting good looks. I wouldn't mind if they take a good look before shooting
Seems like actually Laviolette is using them as an example for the others. I thought most of the guys kept their feet moving today and winning battles pretty well. No complaints.Trocheck has been really good through 2 games. He's playing his position well, defensively sound, pestering forecheck in the offensive zone, and winning shit tons of faceoffs. He and Cuylle look like a terrific match. Both are playing a brand of hockey that we've been clamoring to have for the last several years.
If the forwards are truly committed to battling in front of the net - and so far they’ve been doing that - the long shots are actually pretty ok I think. If anything there were too many garbage outside shots with no screen.
Agree. So much of what makes a defenseman good is simply not making errors. It takes time to get those errors out of the system. Unfortunately we have our guys learning right in front of our eyes. It is what it is. Gotta take the bad with the good. I wouldn’t rush to judge these guys when they’re still relatively young and inexperienced.Gustafsson played over a 100 games in Sweden and another 100+ games in the AHL before he started to get NHL games. Give Jones another 100 games in the AHL and then start from there.
I understand Vally is maybe a bit upset, but it is actually bothering me that he said we only controlled the first 10 minutes and nothing else until the 3rd. We blew them out of the water for 55 of 60 minutes. Tough way to lose.
Even the second pairing is weak. Miller generally covers his mistakes well enough (the benefits of speed and long reach), but his lack of defensive awareness is a liability to and confuses his pair. We basically have one first pairing, an underperforming second pairing and a clueless third pairing. I hope 79 and 4 quickly absorb all the structure that Lavi preaches (56 is likely too old to be taught new defensive tricks). Not sure what the answer is with Lindgren out, but Jones and Schneider absolutely cannot be a pairing. I dont think Jones will have enough offense at this level to offset how poor he is defensively, and Schneider had a rough game for sure
