too early for Eichel now but I can see him being on the 2018 olympic team. Kids too good.

I would agree that this year is too early but if he has a strong season at BU next year I could see him being on the 2015 World Championship team. It'd be a nice final opportunity to impress NHL scouts before the draft.

ONly thing I'm worried about is if Eichel is really physically ready to play against grown professional men. He looked strong enough against the U20 level, but this is a whole nother step up.

This was our team in 2010...Expect something similar. I do think our depths better in 2014, probably a lot better, so hopefully we grab kids like Jones/Trouba.

actually, that team doesn't look that terrible. for some reason I imagined it was worse

that defense was solid especially with JJ, Yandle, and Greene.

goaltending was a big concern as Bishop wasn't the Bishop he is now, but Clemmer played well. I think we can land a Thomas, Gibson, Schneider type of goalie if their respective teams don't make the playoffs.

offensively not a ton of firepower as Oshie, Okposo, Foligno and Dubinsky were very young at the time.

I can definitely see something similar this go around.

When I looked back I said to myself...Hmmm...Not as bad as I remembered?

I remember being pumped that David Moss got selected for some reason.

That was such a good sports year for me.
-WJC
-amazing olympics, not just hockey. Vancouver > Sochi, in every aspect.
-Flyers SCF appearance
-USA at the World Cup

I remember I had a couple of friends over to watch the Germany game, and I tried to get real pumped for the games...But it just didn't work haha

If LAK is out, expect to see Trevor Lewis.

It doesn't look bad, but that's only because four years later a bunch of those guys have gotten a lot better. Back then guys like TJ Oshie, Kyle Okposo and Keith Yandle had just had their first break out years, but still hadn't topped more than 50 odd points. They'd be the equivalent of this years team getting lead by Bjugstad, T. Johnson and Galchenyuk leading the team this year.

Tyler Johnson has been EXCELLENT this year. What a signing by TBL. He's so fast, I hope TBL finishes off the regular season well, and I hope they make a run because I'm a big Stamkos/St. Louis fan (if he stays), but if they don't I'm excited to see what this kid could do on int'l ice.

USA have reach semifinal 1 time in last 10 years. Stop sending NHLers, it does not work. Try euro players. There is plenty of USA players in Europe. They know the big rink and WC will be Olympics for this guys. Imagine how hard they will play.

This team can challenge all team. Take a look of what type of rosters the euro teams always send, always many players from euro league. in 2007 sweden only had 1 nhl players, that was alex steen, we finished on 4th place.

I totally agree with you, but maybe a mix between NHL and Euro-players is the best way of doing it?

Here's my roster based on who I think will accept, which teams will be out of the playoffs and with no players from the Olympic team.

Higgins-Bjugstad-Okposo
Gaudreau-Dubinsky-Atkinson
Nystrom-C. Smith-Bochenski
Mueller-Nelson-Dwyer
Slater

A. Greene-J. Johnson
Jones-Yandle?
Trouba-Petry
Fayne

Schneider/Bishop
Gibson
Clemensen/Thomas

It's too bad Colorado is actually good this year. I know Stastny would go. He's Captain America in my book.

I think Faulk will probably go, hopefully. With him, Jones, Trouba, and Johnson our blueline would be looking pretty good. We can probably get a pretty good goalie too even if it's Gibson again. But our offense.... could be a disaster.

yup.

really need Nashville, Winnipeg, Rangers and Columbus to not make it! Though we usually get some solid players after round 1 eliminations, but if Columbus makes the playoffs, we could be absolutely screwed

I wonder if Jack Johnson goes just to prove to everyone that he loves his country more than he loves spiting the USA Hockey Brass...?

come on down Anders Lee!!

have to imagine he is up with the Isles for good now - put a USA sweater on him right now kid has been impressive in his short time I the NHL.

looks like Peter Mueller is actively pursuing a comeback to the NHL....he has stated it himself that he wants back in the NHL next season. A strong showing in this tournament could land him a 1-year deal with a team if they feel he can stay healthy enough to play. Always had the skill, body never seemed to cooperate.

I could see Bobby Ryan declining an invite after what happened with the Olympic team, he might respond by saying he doesn't have enough intensity sarcastically.

IMO this team has the same short comings as the US Olympic team, poor depth down the middle. :shakehead

if the US could get that group of centers for this tournament it would be a massive plus and likely the best scenario we could hope for. Bjugstad and Nelson are young rookie studs that are showing they belong in the NHL for good. Smith and Dubinsky have offensive skill but are about as good as anything we have available at that position. I agree with your post just saying that I with many US posters would be happy with that group of centers knowing some of the names we have put out there in the past.

I actually liked our centermen in the olympics, not sure if you were referring to them as having a shortage of centers or just making a reference to both teams underachieving.

Don't see this WC team being any good, hopefully it's stacked with young kids.

Neither just declaring once again that a 1-0 win was some how dominance. Kesler, Backes, Pavelski and Stephan played really well all tournament.

Losing by a goal in a single elimination does not mean your team wasn't deep with good centers.

I really hope Tampa go out early in the playoffs. I'd love to see Tyler Johnson on this team. The kid has been on fuego recently.
