Lineup for the first game against Sweden:

Manzato

Vauclair - Kukan
Grossmann - Ramholt
Guerra - Schlumpf
Kparghai

Suri - Ambühl - Pestoni
Rüfenacht - Walsky - Berger
Scherwey - Walser - Martschini
Déruns - Froidevaux - Neuenschwander

Not much to comment, except that Simpson really likes the Suri - Ambühl pair.

I was at the game yesterday...Some thoughts:

Manzato: Did not do anything to keep his team in the game. Sometimes it seemed that he already thought about vacations...One time he actually missed that the puck has already been dropped after a bully in the defensive (!) zone

Vauclair: solid game, tried to do something offensively
Kukan: I was really impressed by him. Convincing in every zone
Grossmann: Did not notice him much
Ramholt: Aggressive leader, did what he was expected to do
Guerra: Just terrible, got undressed by a swede twice
Schlumpf: Did manage a goal, but his defensive partner ruined his game IMO
Kparghai:Did not see much of him

Suri: Good game, creative offensively
Ambühl: Had good chances, at least one of which he should bury
Pestoni: Best Swiss player on the ice, fought for every puck and made good passes
Rüfenacht: Had a good chance, did way more than was expected
Walsky: Never noticed him
Berger: I thought he needs some more minutes with his line, looked a little bit lost
Scherwey: Would love him to play in Minsk, solid in every aspect of the game
Walser: Good game offensively, seemed solid in his own end
Martschini: Did he actually play?
Déruns: Never saw him except for at faceoffs. You decide what this says about him
Froidevaux: Surprisingly solid work in the corners, won many battles
Neuenschwander:Had a good game from what I saw

Just some thoughts, do not interpret too much into this

With Geneva out, Stephan, Romy, Hollenstein and maybe Simek should join. Hopefully not Bezina.

Not sure who can be added from Fribourg. Monnet is usually there, but he had a poor season and never was a difference maker in the first place, Bykov never made it during his best seasons so it would be surprising to see him make the team now, and Sprunger and Plüss have already shown they are not WC caliber players. Maybe Mottet, Hasani or Kamerzin can get a look, but I don't think any of them are good enough to go to Minsk.

Thanks for the report. Seems that other than the expected leaders, Kukan, Pestoni and Scherwey made the best case for themselves.

Simon Moser played again this night. So if the Admirals loose their first round he could be available.

Mirco Müller played his first games vs. men and did look very solid from what I read. He also could be an option, but the depth at D is quite good with Josi/Weber probably joining. Seger/Blindenbacher/Vauclair are set and then people like Geering, Bezina, Von Gunten are still around.

I'm not worried about the defense. As you said, Vauclair, Seger, Blindenbacher and Josi are set, and there is a good possibility Weber joins too. With Von Gunten, we already have six defs who where at the Olympics. Then Geering could get a chance, maybe Schlumpf who played a very strong season, and there's Grossmann and Blum who had a solid tournament last year. Not sure about Kukan, I caught two of his games this season, but it's not enough to get a good idea of where he stands, although I'd probably take Blum ahead of him given their similar styles. Then there's still Ramholt who probably wouldn't hurt on the 4th pair. No idea where Müller stands in all of this, but I doubt he can crack the roster with all those players available.

The offense on the other hand is not as deep, Romy and Hollenstein will be welcomed additions. I'm also looking forward to see what Simpson will do with the Fribourg players.

Not yet, and probably not before the end of the camp in Belarus. I guess it makes sense given that they just played a 7 games serie, and it's not like Hollenstein, Romy and Stephan need a try out anyway. On the other hand, it could have been good to give Simek a chance.

It seems that all Swiss NHL-players would be ready to join the Swiss team if they'd be available.

Any chance Fiala will see WC ? He seems better than Niederiter in same age, playing already in mens league and producing.

What do you guys think, will Pestoni make the team?
IMO he would deserve a roster spot!

Josi and Brunner to join the team next Tuesday, probably along with the Geneva players, Weber only for the last exibition games, with the ZSC and Kloten players.

Hopefully Brunner can rebound from his poor Olympics. If he can perform like in 2010 and 2012, it would be a huge boost to the offense.

About Pestoni, until last year I thought offensive instinct weren't good enough to compensate for this shortcomings, but the way he played this season makes it hard to ignore him. If he works well with Suri and Ambühl, he has a good chance to make it (usually at least one line stay intact during the entire preparation and into the tournament).

From what I´ve seen, he definitively deserves a spot. However, Simpson might go with the guys from last WC because of experience and whatsoever...
If he continues to play like he did this season, I´m sure that with the new coach he´ll become a go-to guy for the national team

5-2 win in the first game against Belarus: http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/boxscore.html?gameid=2414345

Grossmann - Ramholt

Berger - Walser - Martschini

Plüss - Rüfenacht - Monnet

Vauclair and Déruns scratched.

Robert Mayer is allowed to join the team for the preparation camp.

I just don't see any room for him.

It would be interesting to see what he´s capable of. I see him clearly behind Stephan/Flüeler/Gerber though.

Btw, anybody watching the playoff finals in Switzerland? Bodenmann is playing horribad! Responsible for two goals against by inexistent backchecking as blue-liner on the PP. Never seen anything like it. I´d be really angry if he´ll be invited to the national team!

Blum is playing really bad too...

Not sure how Bodenmann is to blame for Fritsche's goal, both Lemm and the defenseman (not sure who it was) failed to take either the puck or the man, he was just the first backchecker on the play, but as he's not the fastest skater out there, he couldn't catch up. Not sure which other goal was his fault.

I thought Blum was ok, he had some good breakout passes.

Anyway, no need to judge players on a single game, they both had a good season and already had some good performance for the national team.

The other goal was during the game on Tuesday, pretty much the same goal. He said in an interview that this goal (on Tuesday) got him questioning himself because it was clearly his mistake and that he needs to get better. And then in the next game it happens yet again.
And it was clearly his mistake, because if Blum decides to make a rush towards the net it´s the responsibility of the forward to take his position. If not, there would be something terribly wrong with Kloten strategy-wise.

And it´s not just these two goals, he didn´t have an outstanding regular season and in the playoffs, despite making some major mistakes, he´s been mostly invisible. So yeah, based on that I don´t think that he earned an invitation to camp.

With your opionion on Blum I can partly agree. He did have a good season but the last game was just very, very bad. Maybe he had too much pressure on him, being the Defensman who was relied on to replace both von Gunten and Du Bois. Hope this game was a fluke for him and that he can fight for a spot on the national team

Swiss can be gold contenders again. Hope you get couple of NHL players.

Bodenmann is not fit I think, and if you're not fit playing in a playoff-final such things happen.

And Blum gets seriously overplayed since Von Gunten is out.
Both are great hockeyplayers and you see that each year, players who didn't have a great year and struggled come to the national team and they start to produce or play great hockey.

We'll see, it's not impossible.

Brunner, Josi and Weber confirmed, very nice.

And what about others ? Streit, Hiller, Andrighneto ? Nino ? Will they come if their respective teams are eliminated from PO-s?

2-1 shootout lose.

Switzerland's lineup:

Genoni

Schlumpf - Guerra
Kamerzin - Ramholt
Kukan - Vauclair
Huguenin - Kparghai

Berger - Froidevaux - Scherwey
Neuenschwander - Monnet - Plüss
Pestoni - Rüfenacht - Suri
Martschini - Walser - Grossmann

Déruns and Ambühl not dressed.

Not sure why Grossmann played forward, or why Déruns was scratched for both games. Hopefully no injury.
