WC: General Talk '14 — Sweden

I guess they won't be invited but Anton Lander (AHL: 46 GP 18 G 34 A 52 P) and Oscar Klefbom are out of the AHL playoffs.

Lander has been dominating in Oklahoma this season. Klefbom did alright in the AHL, most surprising was that he almost looked better when playing in NHL though...

On paper yes, but when it comes to the additions we have gotten I think it is not as bad as it may look.

Backlund raised his game significantly after Christmas and despite a very slow start of the season he actually had the best season in his career when it comes to scoring. Nyquist needs no introduction this year. Ekholm has had a great year and would probably be rookie of the year for NSH if it wasn't for S.Jones and Gustafsson is proven on big ice and in the WHC.

The most important thing though is that in all of these players I see a will to prove themselves and to give it everything in every single shift. These are not players who will half*** it on any given night.

Ours isn't exactly the most impressive of lineups either. We have basically one strong offensive line and the rest are basically high-end grinders. The defense is not any better. It's also Rinne's first game in almost a month. No favourites in that game IMO.
 
Axelsson-Klasen is Harju-Omark all over again. I expect them to score against the weak opponents and do nothing against the good.

If Sweden puts this lineup, they can certainly get the bronze medal. What are the chances of the lineup looking like that?

Have you seen Gustafsson play? He was given a lot of opportunities in Toronto but simply wasnt good enough. Horrible positional play, always out of position for 2nd shots (cuz he is never on the right spot to begin with) but athletic (probably cuz he is never on the right spot to make controlled saves). Im not an Islanders fan but the few glimpses ive seen of Nilsson doesnt look to bad. Pity Läck couldnt come.

Sweden got far to many mediocre players in NA (who would have been fine in SHL). We haven't seen any real forward talent in many years that could replace the likes of Forsberg or Sundin. The only position where we produce top talent is on defense and our young players Wennberg, Forsberg etc... doesnt look good enough to become anything out of the ordinary atm.

This WHC team looks awful and MÃ¥rts should know that last years team was abysmal before Sedins. Nyqvist wont make much of a difference, he needs talent around him to give him space. This WHC will be a humbling experience and the best thing that can come out of it is that MÃ¥rts finally gets the boot.
 
I wouldnt have to much expectations on Järnkrok, he played excellent positional in Preds but on most of the points he scored he was a none factor. He needs to step up and learn to play in traffic or he will end up back in Europe or as a defensive shut down center (if he will get better on face offs).

Since he wont grow taller he needs to get stronger and faster, he seem to lack an efficient stride. I fear he will be to slow to be an efficient player on big ice and especially weak on a team who isnt good enough to hold on to the puck in the offensive zone (which will negate his excellent positional play for scoring).

Danielsson should leave but won't cuz Mårts loves him it's probably Olausson, Thuresson or Sjögren who gets cut along with Rasmussen and Hersley hopefully it's not Thuresson.
